Alan
1.1% of Scots speak Gaelic, contributing ~£3m in license fees. £14.2m is spent on BBC Alba and Radio nan Gàidhael. Interesting fact.

stocky
330 million raised in Scotland from Licence fees. bbc spends 100 million in Scotland . republic of Ireland buys all BBC channels for 21 Million.. Imagine we didnt send all our cash to London, we would have the BBC for 21 mill and have £309 million left to have our own stations... we could spend 50 ,million on Gaelic and we would still have change.... wow even Sportscene might be good..... I think there must be loads of similar situations. What do you suggest. I think we should pool and share resources, to continue this excellent service. Flat Earth
Is this troll still posting shiite on here? Alan you are a bawbag. Interesting fact.... The %age of gaelic speakers would be much higher if it wasn't for the British establishment's cultural ethnic cleansing. My grandparents, all four of them, spoke gaelic as their first language, learning english in school. My parents had gaelic thrashed out of them. I'm a monoglot. You're a tosser. Toepoke
Similar to Flat Earth my dad's grandparents were native Gaelic speakers but despite having nine kids the language was lost to later generations. Do they complain as much about funding Gaelic language programming in Wales and Ireland?...
Rossy
I fail to understand a point of view that says that because something is a 'minority', then it automatically must be worthless. I suspect that the OP's motivation is a fear and visceral hatred of anything which promotes 'Scottishness'.

aaid
I would like to see some, any, investment into Scots. I'm all for Gaelic but it's only one of the indigenous languages of Scotland. A lot of the stuff on BBC Alba is great - and I'm not talking about the football - good documentaries and the coverage of traditional music is excellent. Alan
FE came in very late from the pub. I'm not knocking the spending but like to see numbers. In terms of other £ spent from Scotland to bbc remember that goes to shows that are popular here. Eastenders, GBB, The Voice etc. Even MOTD has large viewing, more than Sportscene I'd expect. Alan
It seems you can't talk about anything without some aggressive historical grievance being raised these days. Scotland 2015.

I seriously met someone when canvassing during the referendum who was voting no purely on the reason that they wouldn't get to see Eastenders if Scotland became independent.
