Orraloon
After the referendum, I'm inherently suspicious of polls, samples, call it what you will. I felt that the Yes campaign were often guilty of preaching to the converted, and their was an element of self-congratulation went on because of daft things like Facebook likes, social media chatter etc etc. I hope that the SNP don't fall into that trap just because their membership increased. I think that the reason we are getting these polls is to try to ensure that the SNP haters make the effort to get out and vote. I predict a very high turnout again.. A lot of Scottish Tories often don't bother to vote because they know there is very little chance of their vote having much effect. It's different this time round as they will do anything to try to stop the SNP.

If that silent Tory gang do come out in mass and vote for Labour surely even the most ingrained inbred Labour voters will see what their party has become? Surely? Yeah, probably not. That's pretty paranoid squire We've always been inundated with polls in the run up to GE's.

Orraloon
That's pretty paranoid squire We've always been inundated with polls in the run up to GE's. I probably didn't explain myself properly there. I know we always get opinion polls. What I meant was that the reason we are getting seemingly very high results for SNP is to help encourage the normally non voters to get out and vote. On this occasion a higher turnout is probably bad for SNP. IMO, opinion polls are designed to manipulate public opinion not to measure it. Rossy
I think that was my point. I think (suspect) that there are a lot of people out there who will vote for anyone but the SNP....red Tories, blue Tories, yellow Tories....makes no difference. The polls look good, but there are a couple of things that are dangerous for the SNP. One being the tendency to believe their own publicity and speak to the converted rather than those that need to be converted, and the other one is being painted as the party of disillusioned left-wing 'extremists' (for lack of a better word). I don't think it did the Yes campaign any good that so many uber left-wingers almost hijacked the campaign and turned it into a socialist protest, and it won't do the SNP any good to be portrayed as the party of the disaffected. The SNP need to make sure that they maintain their position as the party of the middle-ground in Scottish politics. If they don't, you can be damned sure that Labour under Murphy will make a grab for it.

Clyde1998
Ashcroft are currently doing polling in Scottish constituencies, so we will hopefully get a clearer picture on how the election campaign is going in Scotland - when these polls are released. SNP boys and girls are claiming high 60's in favour of their candidate (still to be decided) in my constituency. Katy Clarks own canvassing is suggesting it's neck and neck. I'll say one thing for the SNP folk, they're certainly being proactive despite NEVER being active in this area, they first chapped my door on Christmas week. There are some utterly bizarre perceptions of parties in Scotland.
