I've been speaking to the guy from the clinic Larky recommended. He said that they give you a Valium which knocks you out and freeze your gums up so you'll not feel anything. I am expecting pain for a good few days after though. Yeah ive found out the hard way although it was the lab that made the decision which my dentist is now going to argue back to the screw one, far far easier. That sounds better than what I had, just got a good few injections in mine, wasnt sore just very uncomfy, defos get knocked out man. And yeah swolen sore face for a wee bot after. I was about a week before i felt almost normal but it is worth it long term and if you can get it cheap from larkys place then good on ye. euan2020
my cousin used to work in Maxiofacial in hospital some of the folks were getting titanium or gold implants to prevent infection due to bone fatigue with cancer etc - so some folks have thousands of pounds of gold in their mouth they dont know about
kumnio
I have 4 implants, of the screw type, didn't feel any pain at all, and I really hate dentists. Only slight discomfort was during a cold night, one of the implants felt really cold, but that was it. Money well spent, although it was very expensive. I've been quoted £3511 for 4 implants, of course travel and accommodation is extra. Thanks for the info.

Not because ive had bad teeth or anything but because of having a small mouth I had to get four teeth surgically removed that werent coming through properly, then I had one thst was 180 degrees the wrong way that they turned around when I had a bottom brace ? good times. Its not pleasent in any way but Im not terrified of the dentist at all the way some are. I'm off an age where I was psychologically scarred by getting fillings done without "a jag". thplinth
What a feckin horror show this thread is. I doubt I'll ever visit the dentist again never mind contemplate this frankenstein shit that you kents are embarking on. Screw in's versus stanchions is it? Mad. That guy above who recommends they knock you out is the best advice you will get (translation - dont do it it is barbaric shit!).

You make it sound so bad, better than walking about with a tooth gap.......which I did for 6 months in Canada when my denture broke (pre implant)
Flora MaDonald
Aw man. This is bringing it all back. A big rod rammed up yer mooth for the pleasure of £800. Never known pain like it. I would never change it though - Shane Magowan is not a good look.

dezmondo
Implants are the best option for a gap, no question about it. The only drawback is the cost. A straightforward implant will be around 2000-2500. If bone grafting etc is required then it will be more expensive. You don't require 3 implants for a gap with 3 teeth missing for example though, so it won't always work out as the above cost per gap, it may be slightly less. As a dentist I can assure you I get no commission or anything from implant referrals. The reason I or any other dentist would strongly advise against going abroad is mainly due to the fact that if anything goes wrong nobody here will touch them, never mind you can't be quite sure the level of treatment you are receiving. In saying that, I don't blame folk for considering that option as it is really expensive.

Any problems with the plugs, as you know, will have to be corrected, for a price, at a clinic that specialises in plug implants. I've had bridgework and crowns done overseas and had some work done on them since I moved back here.
