Cove_Sheep
Apparently they've voted to keep their existing flag.

From what I'd heard way back the existing flag was the hot favourite. Should have put the All Black flag up against it, that's a stoater... I've not spoken to many in favour of the "new" flag and John Key is extremely unpopular

ErsatzThistle
Shame. New Zealand is a proud nation in it's own right. They need not have any stupid bonds to the UK anymore. Fiji are at least ditching the colonial relic from their own flag. It was rather eye opening about a year back when we had a thread on Fiji changing their flag and a few resident Brit Nats got quite annoyed at Fijians having the audacity to do this ! ParisInAKilt
It was more a rejection of the government and how they organised the referendum rather than wanting to keep the Union Jack

Like voting against independence because you don't like Alex Salmond. That's the flag dream gone for a generation...
weekevie04
A pity really as the alternative was a belter of a flag. Some of the Pacific Islands have fantastic flags - Vanuatu, Tonga, New Ireland. Edited March 27, 2016 by weekevie04
