Alibi
The question that should be asked is why are we no longer producing decent football players? our team almost to a man can't trap a ball with one touch. Watch Barca and they ping the ball around first time. our players take 2 touches to kill the ball and a third to pass it. Is this result of valuing speed and height above ability? harrystarfish
We didn't get beat Aye we did, we got beaten in the race for qualification. You think people are on here complaining about a single 2-2 result?

Last night was a sore one, and it's going to be a sickener watching everybody else in France. But honestly, if we'd have scraped it, it would just be papering over the fact that we haven't produced any real quality players in years. I hope the soccer academies start producing, but no idea how that is panning out.

Is this result of valuing speed and height above ability? yes probably. we should be playing short 7 a sides games to a much older age - especially in this country given the climate. seeing 11 year olds hoofing a ball up and down a muddy full sized pitch where they just kick it and chase just makes me despair. Guest flumax
Fattest s in the world too, are we' no'? can't even win at that. Depending on what you read, its it's a Pacific island nation Tonga, Vanuatu Samoa usually, or an oil rich middle East state Kuwait or uae

exile
well it is under a general non football thread now the only home nation to be watching Euro 16 from our tellys. any other nation can "almost win" or go crashing out in glorious failure, but then lick their wounds in private, turn national attention elsewhere but in few nations do you have to go home after a crashing reverse, and turn on the news to find the news full of happy stories of other teams winning and qualifying it's a particular masochism we have to bear - except of course for those of us who positively enjoy the successes of wales, n. ireland and england! scoobydoo
The word greatest is somewhat redundant here.
scotlad
turned down world cup in 58 as well did we not ? 1950, I think it was. We qualified by virtue of finishing second in the home internationals tournament but seemingly the SFA's wounded pride led them to decline the offer. Fattest s in the world too, are we' no'? Nah, Mexico and the USA are both fatter s than we are. With credit to @stewartbremner on twitta This probably wasn't the tread to open for someone who needs cheering up. I don't really buy into the concept of the 'home nations'. Maybe it is my age, but as far as international football is concerned the UK doesn't exist. So what we have are 4 (or 5 if you count RoI) footballing countries who just happen to border each other. Then again, unlike most countries that border each other, we'll have to put up with weeks of having not just England's but also Northern Ireland's, most probably Wales' and possibly the Republic of Ireland's games, match preparations and vox pops being shoved down our useless, cannae-defend-a-lead-to-save-ourselves throats.
