neilser
Talking about a day of reckoning with big business, including nationalising BP. Can't see this as helpful in swaying undecided voters to Yes in any way - a wee word in his ear may be required...

Agreed, can understand his anger but now is the time for a cool head and passion channelled by reason. I've not yet heard a decent reason for keeping the union from BT that hasn't bene countered, the arguments are all on the Yes side.
thplinth
Is Petrocelli or Jim Fairlie still about? Would love to hear their views and insights on all of this right now.

Not sure I agree about Sillars, but this is certainly how I feel when I see the Radical Independence bill posters that have sprung up all over Edinburgh in the past few months ie they may well scare off more undecideds than they win over. EddardStark
Big daft Jim. Wants to nationalise the oil industry and outspoken critic of Ecks plan b's.
redstevie007
I agree with Sillars' sentiment but to vocalise it the way he has puts us in the gutter with the Bitters. Better to dispense retribution in our own private (but voluminous) way by moving to another bank, using another shop, buying another paper etc.

Lamia
Is Petrocelli or Jim Fairlie still about? Would love to hear their views and insights on all of this right now. I have seen a bit of them on twitter and they seem to be seeing the bigger picture and biding their time. Lamia
Surely it is good to show there are different views in the Yes camp - I am not sure we have to all sing from the same hymsheet like BT are trying to do very uncomfortably
giblet
Sillars getting a wee bit carried away, but what he says will play well in the labour heartlands and the rest of Yes can tolerate it.

BremnerLorimerGray
I have absolutely no disagreement to anything Jim has said ..apart from he didnt go far enough I agree with Sillars in the sense that we should have a State owned Oil company. The likes of Statoil or ADNOC are a pointer to what can be achieved. Or we could do Gazprom Neft/Russian Govt do and bit by bit swallow the World up on our way to total domination... Ally Bongo
The exact opposite of what Margo wanted, looks like Jim has lost it. I see absolutely nothing wrong with anything EK The point is the executives of the big companies and banks that are in "cahoots" with the Establishment are millionaire tories - some of whom have made their fortune by bankrupting the rest of the country Speaking on the campaign trail in Edinburgh's Wester Hailes area from his Margo Mobile, named in memory of his late wife, Margo MacDonald MSP, Mr Sillars said oil giant BP would face nationalisation in an independent Scotland. He said: "This referendum is about power, and when we get a 'Yes' majority we will use that power for a day of reckoning with BP and the banks. "The heads of these companies are rich men, in cahoots with a rich English Tory Prime Minister, to keep Scotland's poor poorer through lies and distortions. The power they have now to subvert our democracy will come to an end with a 'Yes'. "BP, in an independent Scotland, will need to learn the meaning of nationalisation, in part or in whole, as it has in other countries who have not been as soft as we have been forced to be. "As for the bankers: your casino days, rescued by socialisation of your liabilities while you waltz off with the profits, will be over." Mr Sillars added: "What kind of people do these companies think we are? They will find out."
Rossy
Sillars simply said what many hundreds of thousands of people in Scotland are thinking. People are far too scared these days to rock the establishment boat. Edited September 12, 2014 by Rossy
