Robroysboy
Bulk of the squad should be the same as for the previous games, subject to injury, for the two games coming up and the two in October. Now isn't the time to change things about or even bring players in to give them a feel of the place. Plenty of time for that in friendlies next year, hopefully in preparation for the summer's finals. good post
Robroysboy
Thought he played well when he came on against City today. Expect him to start in Tblisi agree Jim, we need experienced players and Naisy comes into that bracket.

Strong Like Ox
The only thing certain about Scotland Squad announcements are Dons fans going into meltdown when whatever player they are talking up (Langfield, Pawlett, Jack etc) gets left out for an established player, often already with caps, who is playing at a higher level. Squirrelhumper
Maybe a tad controversial, but I'm not convinced Stevie Naismith is worthy of a place in the next squad based on form. Lay off the smack. Absolute certainty to start both games.
Strong Like Ox
Like Celtic's McGregor? More like Jack getting left out for Fletcher, McCarthur, Morrison, Brown, Dorrans... with the likes of Arfield, Cairney, McDonald n'co left out too, but who are all also better than Jack. McGregor was part of this 'blood youngsters with potential into the squad' routine with them not actually getting a cap - see Gauld, Paterson, McLeod. No issue with that at all. McGregor's been rubbish since then and won't be anywhere near a squad until he turns his form around, but no harm in giving him a taste early in his career. The first 4 should be ahead of Jack. The other 3 are laughable, IMO. Mainly because they're completely different types of players to Jack. I think Strachan made a major error in his squad for the Qatar game, it was exactly the type of game we should've given some youngsters a cap in. deecie
If Birthday boy Cammy Smith isn't in the squad, it's just another case of the Old Firm Bias from the Glasgow FA.

They play further up the pitch than Jack. Jack is a sitting midfielder. You're comparing different types of players. I'd say those guys are competing for a spot the position off the striker, filled by Ritchie or Naismith. I don't think Ryan Jack deserves a call up because he plays for Aberdeen, i think he deserves a call-up because he's been consistently excellent for over 2 years now. I don't think Ryan Jack deserves a call up because he plays for Aberdeen, i think he deserves a call-up because he's been consistently excellent for over 2 years now. The three 'laughable' players have all played sitting midfielder, with McDonald pretty much playing that role 100% of the time - here's his position at the weekend http://www.skysports.com/football/cardiff-vs-wolves/teams/339571 By limiting Jack to only being a sitting midfielder, you are kind of talking yourself out of the argument... as there's no need to bring him in with Brown, Mulgrew, Dorrans, McCarthur, Fletcher all vying for the 2 spots in DM, with many of them also able to play elsewhere on the field. The only way Jack would be worthwhile calling up was if he was a better player than any of them, which he isn't. If he moves to a bigger club and plays against a better standard week in, week out, then yes he'll deserve a call up. Until that happens, he'll struggle to get anywhere near the pitch in a Scotland top.

wanderer
Doubt there will be much (if any) in the way of surprises this squad (just a case of what young player is tagging along for the experience this time.....this case, looks like Armstrong) Strachan has shown a number of times over the years that he knows who can do a job for him and will somewhat turn a blind eye to players having a total lack of club football run out's at the time of a squad get together. I personally think there are only 4 players that are playing well enough to break into this squad (taking into account the form of the players ahead of them in the squad) - Armstrong, Fraser, Shinnie and Watt. I'd be willing to be that i've seen more of both players in that position than you have. One thing i certainly am not is biased. I'm pretty realistic about the ability of the players we have. I don't think Ryan Jack is a superstar. I think he's a very good young player, who's been performing at a high standard for a long period of time. I just think it deserves some recognition and that Strachan could/should prepare for suspensions/injuries by bringing Jack in to the squad. The Qatar game was the ideal situation to bring him in and give him half an hour.

True, but I think Strachan will go with what he knows just now, rather than sweeping changes, so think there is only room for 1, maybe 2, new faces in the squad. morrison1982
Aye, this isn't going to be like earlier in the group when he was taking along younger players (eg1 Ryan Gauld, eg2 Lewis Macleod) "for the experience"
