'I'm not a Unionist'...is the headline in The Herald this morning.

I can't work out if Murphy is devious, a liar, a delusional fool, cynical or cunning beyond belief....I suspect it's a combination of all of these.

It's the classic Blairite tactic.....make an obvious and shameless move to grab the middle ground by simply adopting your opponents position. I'm interested to see how the SNP will respond to this.....Murphy is getting a huge amount of publicity out of his ridiculous pronouncements, and the SNP simply can't sit by and allow him the freedom to assert himself unchallenged.

“A Conservative & Unionist tradition inside the Conservative Party and elements of the Liberal Democrats, and you had a trade-unionist and socialist solidarity tradition inside the Labour Party.

“For a moment there was an alignment for different reasons of political culture and history, but that moment is gone.”

I think the more coverage he gets the better. The key to SNP success in May will depend on getting as many of the 1.6m who voted Yes to vote SNP. In my opinion he is only appealing to Labour voters who voted No and there is no where near enough of them to save Labour in May. The more the Yes voters see of him the more they will remember how much they detested him during the Referendum campaign and this in turn will motivate them to get back into the polling booth again.
