John_B81
And people said he had now made himself unemployable in the wake of the Cardiff/homophobic text scandal. Good on him!

Parklife
Well, at least we now know what Wigan stand for. Misogyny and racism.
brant grebner
It's good that people take the word of Vincent Tan at face value when it comes to allegations of homophobia. As a Malaysian billionaire with close links to the Malaysian government, he has real form when it comes to standing up for LGBT rights in that country. What's the penalty for being a shitstabber in Malaysia now? death? No - it's just 20 years in jail with fines and whippings.

Vincent Tann is a and Malaysia has appalling human rights record, so MacKay being a racist and misogynist is okay. Is that the rationale you're deploying here? neilser
Should we all be be racists now? Only work takes up most of the day and in the evening I just like a cup of tea. I wouldn't be able to devote myself full time to the old racism.
brant grebner
Here's what Mackay is accused of: Over a 2 year period, Mackay sent over 100k texts and emails to his work-mate in which he made 6/7 remarks that were released by Tann to the press as "proof" that Mackay is a bad man. The most misogynist one was ‘I bet you’d love a bounce on her falsies.’ What's he actually saying here? He's saying that he would like to play with her surgically enhanced breasts. Why does the woman have fake tits? so that men don't look at them and want to play with them? He referred to Maccabi Tel Aviv as "The Jews" - they're an Israeli club with the star of David on their club crest. "The club are named after the Maccabees, an ancient Jewish rebel army, which became a symbol of the struggle of the Jewish people for over 2,000 years to retain their freedom, religion and sovereignty." He mentioned dog eating when dealing with a group of Koreans. Koreans eat dogs. A separate message says of an African player: "Doesn’t look like a good CV. And he’s Nigerian." Maybe he was taking the African cup of Nations in to account when weighing up whether to sign a player. The messages that were released to the press were not released within their full context; they were one liners. Cut out one liners from 7 or 8 messages that anyone has made over a 2 year period and you can portray them as monsters. And even if Mackay is racist, sexist, misogynistic - so what? Because he's involved in football, we have to hold him to a higher standard that any other walk of life? Are the anti-intolerance brigade so intolerant of intolerance themselves that they are more intolerant than the intolerant?

ParisInAKilt
But surprised he's been appointed while there's still an investigation going on about what happened while he was Cardiff boss.
John_B81
What is baffling is that there are people on here who think MacKay shouldn't get back into football because of these texts (with some justification) but think it's ok for a convicted rapist to get back in. Homophobia/racism is bad but not as bad as rape FFS.
PASTA Mick
Great appointment for Wigan. They have one of the best squads in the league and I'm sure it won't take Malky long to get them moving up the league.
