1320lichtie
Don't see the relevance of applauding the death of a young man Very sad news RIP In the 17th minute of Newcastle's first home friendly since the fans' deaths, a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad on 10 August, the crowd stood and applauded for 60 seconds to mark the date and flight number that claimed the Magpie supporters. Now supporters groups and local paper The Chronicle are calling on fans to repeat the tribute at every Newcastle game this season. Mr Sweeney's father Barry told the paper: "It's a nice gesture, it would be great if they did it for the rest of the season and they would be part of every game. "If Liam knew everyone was clapping for him he wouldn't have believed it but he would have been so proud." Think we should all make some noise for him to show we remember him at home games from now on, imagine him up there knowing the whole stadium was clapping in memory of him. I think it would be a great gesture, aswell as a minutes silence.

Help ma Boab
Minutes applause before game on Tuesday. Aye SFA just posted on Facebook great to hear they will have this although I always think a minutes silence is more fitting.
northernscum
Minutes applause before game on Tuesday. Is this the official SFA stance? Or just what you suggest? Hopefully there will be some form of gesture on Tuesday, although i would prefer it to be a silence.

Donaldo87
Hmmm would rather it was a silence but there we go.
Gala Tartan Army (Borders)
Unfortunately I think a minutes silence may have been disrupted so think applause is only option.
Toepoke
Polite applause is quite a dignified tribute IMO
Kirk
I think a silence would be more suited, but given the game maybe an applause is a better idea.
northernscum
Unfortunately I think a minutes silence may have been disrupted so think applause is only option. I doubt it. The fans who would be up supporting England are just fans like the rest of us, they would be as respectful to the loss of a fellow football fan as we would be to them. Haggis_trap
Would like to think both sets of fans would have the dignity for a proper minutes silence

1320lichtie
A lot of people would be coming into the stadium not knowing what was going on though. Look at KO time on Friday, place was 3/4s full, drunk fans in stairwells/outside ground etc not knowing it was happening. Better with a minutes applause
Help ma Boab
Yup I have no doubt out English opponents would respect a minutes silence for this but I understand why the SFA have taken the safer option

Angus_Young
20 years of age the lad was and he has died at the fitba. I do like the minutes applause in certain circumstances but this isn't one of them IMHO Anyway it's not important, just bloody tragic all round
The Laud
The game means nothing after hearing this. So tragic. R.I.P.

northernscum
Not getting at the SFA over this. At least they have been proactive enough to get a tribute organised. Just seems like a sign of the times that we even have to consider anything other than a minutes silence. I don't ever remember it being an issue in the past, and i am sure there were punters entering stadiums late then as well. *Having said that, i suppose tributes were very few and far between in the past compared to nowadays. Gala Tartan Army (Borders)
The family of the lad were consulted on decision so presume they are happy for it to be a minutes applause rather than silence.
