Larky Masher
I thought there would have been some outrage over yesterday's Steve Bell cartoon. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/cartoon/2014/nov/13/steve-bells-if-nicola-sturgeon-scotland
Pool Q
Yes, and why bother? The Guardian, the most London-centric of all the 'qualities', has taken a consistently hostile view to the issue of Scottish independence, Bell and their other cartoonist (name escapes me) have form on this. It was essentially posted missing during the referendum campaign on the issue of media/state collusion, something it would have been all over in any other country in the world. Flure
Bell who is great is some areas does some to have lost the plot with the SNP. In the 80s he was supreme on the subject of nuclear weapons.
Larky Masher
In the 80s he was supreme on the subject of nuclear weapons. And on Maggie and Blair, really can't see what he has against the SNP unless he sees any type of nationalism as bad.
exile
This one is only criticising a politician and a party. It's only at the level that politicians hurl at each other (thinking of Salmond = Kim Jong Il) Some of the other ones were going beyond what any mainstream politician would do, deriding Scotland as a nation, usually reserved for foreign nations, but not internal minorities, or customers of one of your constituent 'nations'. In other words, they behave sometimes as if Scotland is just an integral part of north Britain, and at other times as if a foreign country that they are free to abuse and laugh at from afar. ErsatzThistle
Typical arrogance and patronising pish from the middle class, trendy lefty crowd. To them Scotland is nothing more than a rich reserve of votes for the dear old Labour party. Lately we haven't "known our place" as we have in years gone by. To these la-di-da s in Lewisham or wherever, us Scots must be ridiculed for the stupid little nation we are, the UK is bigger, the UK is better, your culture, flag and alleged "nation" must take second place to the all encompassing grand utopia of the UK with Ed Miliband as our glorious leader. badger that. And badger Steve Bell. Edited November 14, 2014 by ErsatzThistle
Pool Q
I have a number of Bell's 'If' and 'Maggie's Farm' books on my bookshelf, and have enjoyed his stuff since the 1980s.. As LM says, he has real issues with the SNP and the issue of Scottish independence. Personally it doesn't bother me, It's fairly clear he has little or no knowledge of the issues. Water off a duck's back. Edited November 14, 2014 by Pool Q

Water off a duck's back. Aye. I saw this carrion yesterday. Don't know what his problem is - he's so on the money some times, but as larky says, has a real blind spot for the SNP. Oh, socialist, nationalist you say? Like the nazis! Brilliant.
exile
Oh, socialist, nationalist you say? Like the nazis! Brilliant. The question is, would they say the same of UKIP? Or are they just lovable fruitcakes and closet racists? (UKIP. not the guardian) because hey fair play to them, somewhere in the political fog people understand those plucky 'kippers are something to do with democracy and self determination...which is OK if you're UK, right? Padre Andrew
Outrage tells them you’ve been hurt. Best ignored. Like some others on here I used to like Steve Bell, and yes I’ve a few of his books. He got at Thatcher and Blair very effectively. But he does have a real hatred of the SNP. I think he’s an old-fashioned Labourite who can’t distinguish between ethnic nationalism and civic nationalism. By that logic, the SNP can be equated with the Nazis. Armchair Bob
I used to think I was lefty-liberal - until I read the Guardian. Makes me want to spit that paper. It is so up itself its no real. And that was before the referendum and their Scotophobia was confirmed.

Going off thread a bit, bit it kind of links in to your comment...it really bugs me that radio shows and letters in UK national newspapers often give people's location as Joe Bloggs, Greenwich/Lewisham/Finchley etc as if the rest of the country will know these are areas of London. Would they give someone in Scotland, or for that matter any other English city's location as Joe Bloggs, Gorgie/Headingly/Edgsbaton? It's just another example of how London-centric the UK media is.
