Hertsscot
Alberta no longer going to host 2030, Victoria no longer going to host 2026. Is this the end? Pity if that is the case as it was one of the only occasions athletes could represent Scotland. It's also the most high profile event for the Commonwealth and I wonder whether that will hasten it's end as an organisation.

AlfieMoon
Despite everyone saying otherwise, you can’t help think that this is considerably indicative of the demise of not just the games, but also the Commonwealth/Monarchy. Yes, the financial outlay for these games is a huge factor but it’s a changing of the times that it can no longer be justified.

I agree, there's been quite a lot of discussion about the Commonwealth's future, particularly with the death of the Queen and accession of Charles. If the Games go it will be a loss, it's been a good experience for lots of young athletes and certainly there was a very positive vibe when they've been held in the UK. Ally Bongo
Alternatively you could look at it and say the British Establishment must loathe the "home nations" representing themselves so they wont shed any tears on that front

Aye, it will be missed more by the competitors than anyone else. Just host it in London every four years.

I do think that holding it in the UK is a practical possibility but whether other countries in the Commonwealth would want that in another matter. biffer
The Aussies in particular we’re trying to over leverage infrastructure investment. Both Glasgow and Birmingham got a return on investment with visitors etc, but they only spent about £500million in Glasgow and £750 million in Birmingham. The Aussies and Canucks were both projecting much larger spends on new infrastructure. Basically it’s on practical in a city or region that already has most of the sport infrastructure already in place.
