Does ScottyCTA Have A Weegie Accent?

No that plots out a parabola. Plus doesn't take into account that the observer isn't at surface level.

asks me to stay with it and then ignores the answer. This is why I try and not engage too much cherry-picking end up with wasted effort.

I'm trying to determine if the 'Bedford Level Experiment' is evidence/proof of a flat earth.

I thank you for your reply.

(Will take me a while to digest/understand it all.)

Is there GCI of thousands and thousands of satellites in orbit?

Satellite spotting & photography is a popular hobby amongst star-gazers & astro-photographers. Spotting them is a doddle, websites like Heavens-Above give you all the information you need (including the point at which they will disappear/reappear into or out of the Earth’s shadow. The data is so unerringly accurate that it would have to be one hell of a conspiracy to make it happen every time on any night that I ever choose to step outside & have a look

Taking photos requires specialist skills & equipment but I’d bet any money there will be someone not overly far from you who does it from their back yard. There are loads of photos online, easily found of satellites photographed from earth, often with the technical detail of how they took it.

This video was posted on here before. Favourite quote "I see there are direct flights, but I don't think they exist" :-))

The sheer persistence and misplaced ingenuity of these people is quite something. interesting thing is, the guy is correct that there are relatively few direct flights that go between the southern parts of those three continents. But this is for economic reasons, the same way that there are relatively few direct flights between other peripheral areas (there must be more flights from Scotland to Ireland or Norway or almost anywhere via London, than direct). It's quite telling that towards the end, he is trying to show that there is no direct route between S America and S Africa. But you can see from his flat earth map that the most direct route would be via NE Brazil (eg Recife) and /or West Africa (eg Abidjan). But surprise surprise, there are no flights offered via those kinds of places - the most direct way in a flat earth - for the same economic reasons there are none directly across the south Atlantic.

The giveaway is that the argument is completely one-sided, there is no attempt to seek or test against any evidence going the other way.

And the most jaw-dropping 'elephant in the room' is that if what he says is true, it would be among the biggest stories ever in the history of the world. One that could be proved so easily! But no-one - not he nor any of his comrades - even attempted to book a flight, one of the direct flights, that could prove the establishment/masonic/scientism conspiracy so deliciously, irrevocably wrong. Surely these guys must know what they're at, they must be trying to hoodwink the gullible.

I've been to the Bedford Levels where the experiment was done. To be fair, the river looks very straight and flat. 😉

But then I also went to Cromer, where the horizon looked curved.

I think there are better ways of seeing the shape of the Earth. Like for example photography from a spacecraft. Or the shadow of the Earth on the Moon. But all that evidence has already been presented.

'Direct flights' listed/scheduled but never actually take place.

I think this is where I 'get off the bus' to be honest. Discussing geometry of planets and continents fine. But arguing about conspiracies of faked air flights, not for me.

Yeah ,but, no but. There isn't really anything to discuss about the geometry of planets and continents other than 'that's interesting, need to learn more about that'. Discussing the possibility that our current understanding is wrong and that the earth is flat consequentially must include that our current understanding is all a conspiracy and flights are faked.

Same as this...

I don't think that's the same.

Are you trying to say that it's just perspective again?

The tracks get narrower, but the rays get wider.

Photos of the sun's hotspots are used to show a close sun.

What's the explanation?

What's happening here?

Is this true?

If the sun was close, would it's rays look like this?

With the sun being so far away its rays are parallel so the effect you see is indeed similar to railway tracks disappearing into the distance.

That pyramid sketch above seems to be suggesting the sun is only a mile or so above the ground.

And on the subject of things disappearing, how come you can see an aeroplane 12 miles above you...

Can you?

How high are the clouds?

5 miles?

...but can't see a ship 12 miles out to sea?

1. our eyes have a limit to how far we can see

2. atmospherics

3. diffraction
