Rossy
if it was for something else I'll hold my hands up. The point is, all we saw on TV was a couple of seconds of Halliday waving his arms about. It's entirely possible that the officials saw and heard a bit more than that. EddardStark
We got 2 seconds of it on TV. as I said I'll hold my hands up but if the yellow was for that then its a poor decision.
thewolf_1980
If the 2nd yellow was for that fist pump, then it's a ridiculous decision. I was concerned about the game tonight given the tricky venue and the fact we rarely play well in evening games (for some reason) so delighted with the win. Barry McKay was good again. thewolf_1980
Now that I've seen the (apparently) full incident on the telly, that is an extremely harsh 2nd yellow. The ref is a killjoy arse. Fair play to Alan Stubbs for his comments too.
Rossy
Referee's are human. I can tell you with absolute 100% certainty....having reffed at a lower level (a while ago :-)...that a mouthy player will start to attract the attention of the referee to the extent that there comes a point where the official's authority is being challenged No referee worth his salt will allow that to happen, and at that point the player in question will be brought instantly down to size. Now, I'm not saying that's exactly what happened, but there's a fair chance that Halliday simply pushed the referee too far in a short space of time. I'm sure you could say that it's not right and it's not fair...and it probably isn't....but maybe through things like this Halliday will start to learn a lesson. thewolf_1980
Halliday will be a miss for Saturday against Falkirk now. We're not exactly blessed with defensive midfielders (in fact we have no specialist ones in the first team squad at all) and Halliday has been good lately. Centre-half Dom Ball or Nicky Law would be the most likely replacements unless they change the system. Jason Holt should be back after injury too. thewolf_1980
Well he is. I've never met him. Good football player at our level though and that's all I particularly care about.
dezmondo
Well I've been to many football matches and I've never seen a player do that to the opposing fans. A bit harsh, but I'm sure it's a yellow going by the book. Either way he is a clown, if I was his manager I'd be going through him. EddardStark
He gave the Morton support the "######" gesture. TV not showing it. Did he really ? If he had done that then TV would have referred to without showing it. If he did then fair enough but there is no evidence to support it. Pretty clear. https://mobile.twitter.com/marcarm123/status/691741742715031552/video/1 That very same footage was shown by BT from behind. No evidence of the hand gesture. They would have called him out if he had done it. Plenty of fist pumping which seems to be a capital offence. You can see it in the video (around 5 secs in), I also seen it with my own two eyes, he also did it right in front of the linesman. sbcmfc
Sounds a ridiculous decision! Although did I ever mention the time Michael Higdon got pulled by the compliance officer for doing a fist pump in front of his own fans, because it got mentioned on sportscene (I think they thought it was a GIRUY to the 'well fans, but Higdon was really popular with the 'well fans.) It's obviously the linesman who brought it to the referee's attention. He deemed it enough for a yellow card (I'm not sure why you'd be hanged for it), which seems fair enough to me. It's harsh, but again it's stupidity from Halliday. Maybe he'll learn something before Rangers one day come up to the big league. Was that on the highlights or did they mention it after like they once did with a Youl Mawéné foul against Celtic? Tried to get him done for it even though it wasn't deemed important enough to be shown during the match coverage.
