Robroysboy
Just back from city centre glasgow, snp cars, window displays and general support for SNP. Also got a mate at work who will vote snp but did not want independence. Got the impression that this is the exception than the norm. Or is it ? If there is so much support for SNP why was a No vote returned in the referendum. Was the theory that westminster would win at ALL costs proven accurate. Something doesnt add up. G-Man
Living in Glasgow gave me false hope, lots of Yes posters. I thought everywhere was similar. Plus Yes people seemed proud of their vote but the other side much quieter. Between that and msm telling them the nats would batter them if they showed support for No.
HIGHTOWER 1314
plenty snp in kirkcaldy plus theres a shop on the high street.

I was convinced right up until about 2pm on the day that we were going to do it.

Very honest of him and i can see where hes coming from even though i voted yes. Edited April 26, 2015 by Robroysboy

phart
The wedding i was a couple of people from Glasgow commented on how bad the atmosphere was in the lead up, in the context of stating you're going to vote no. I'd have to ask follow up questions to see what the specifics were but it was my two pals who said it, one voted no one voted yes.

Toepoke
I'd say about half the No voters I know are voting SNP this time. At this moment I can only see a concerted "anti-Nat" vote making an inroad into the poll leads. I've certainly heard of a few people who'll be voting tactically for Labour or the Libs for that reason...

Robroysboy
If someone voted no i put it down to two reasons. 1. Selfish, looking after number one and not seeing the bigger picture for the future generations but taking some pain now. 2. Fear drummed into them by westmister, carmichael even admitted it post referendum.
Scunnered
I see one reason. The Yes campaign did not convince people beyond reasonable doubt.
Ally Bongo
3. See themselves as British first and Scottish second - most of this category will be bigot types 4 Believe we are too wee, too poor and too stupid 5 Weighed up all the facts and came to the conclusion it was too risky - although if they really did full research they wouldnt have came to that conclusion and probably fall into category 3 but dont want to admit it 6 Would always vote No even if they knew Scotland would be better off. See Jimmy Hood MP and again category

My friend is a postwoman in Newton Mearns and was telling me today that a lot of her elderly Tory voting customers are voting SNP. She wears Yes and SNP badges, etc do they all know her views and she's had a lot of them greet her by saying, "I'm voting for your party to keep Jim Murphy out." My parents are in his constituency and whilst my mums been SNP for a good few years my dad has switched from Labour to them. He has lots of political reasons but it's also helped by his dislike of Murphy and Milliband.
aaid
This is a pretty good piece on the motives of No voters and why the No support doesn't necessarily translate to tactical voting support - at least not in significant numbers - to the unionist parties. http://lallandspeatworrier.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/harnessing-55.html

As far as North Ayrshire go. With the odd exception of the Garnock Valley (where I live sadly), the working class and less affluent schemes are canvassing high for Labour. SNP support is of course rife with business owners... When you reach the middle classes of Largs and Skelmorlie the SNP support tails off to Tory. Garnock Valley is full of SNP types... My own parents included
