Squirrelhumper
1955 Aberdeen had won the league. They were invited to compete in the first European Cup competition, but decided not to attend. Hibs were subsequently invited and went on to become the first British team to compete in a pan European competition. J Too stingy to pay for flights? deecie
I'm seeing a lot of jealousy towards Aberdeen FC here. Can't we instead focus on what's important? Hibs casually noising up the Celtic.

Said we'd only go if we won the Home Internationals. We qualified as runners up but that wasn't good enough for the SFA...

giblet
From the excellent , http://hiberniansaintpatricks.co.uk/history/, personally think we should rename ourselves back to the Catholic Young Mens Society Football Club for the game this Sunday. "Giving St. Patrick’s CYMS football club a name, however, proved much more difficult, and protracted discussions were entered into. Father Hannan proposed the obvious name, the Catholic Young Men’s Society Football Club, and although appropriate, it was generally agreed it was just too long‑winded. St. Patrick’s F.C. was thought to be disrespectful to Ireland’s patron saint, and other suggestions that were rejected included Harp, Shamrock, Emerald and Celtic. The Club was almost named Young Ireland, but Michael Whelahan asked for more time to think about it, since his enthusiasm for the football club dictated that it should have a very special name. Michael went to St. Patrick’s Church to pray for inspiration and it was there he remembered that the fiercely Catholic Ancient Order of Hibernian’s secret society had been absorbed into the CYMS many years before."
