Android Tablets - Recommendations?

Recommended Posts

So many out there now. Depends on your budget, really.

Would look for Full HD (or above), between 2gb and 4gb memory and a long battery life (6+ hours).

I'd try steer clear of MTK processors. Had them in previous tablets & phones and they're not the best even with 8 cores.

This is decent for £150 delivered: http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_154811.html

It's not on the latest android OS. It's still running KitKat which is a year out of date now - we've been on Lollipop since this time last year. The new OS (Marshmallow) is out in a couple of weeks and there is zero chance this will get the upgrade given that it is still running KitKat.

If you want the latest version of Android, you are better going for a Nexus

Cool kids run Cyanogen anyway.

But aye, get the Nexus.

Anyone anything to add to this?

Needing to buy an android tablet for someone. It's their first tablet having had very limited use of an iPad.

71years old with lots of spare time, looking to fill in their time by trying out the internet etc.

Needs to be as close to stock Android as possible.

Options:

Samsung Tab A 9.7 @ £199

Nexus 9 @ £250 (can't find any good deals just now!)

Google Pixel C @ £299 (which is a great price!)

go for the Nexus or Pixel C since they are stock Android and will get any updates quicker than anything that isn't 'pure' Android. If you can, buy it direct from google because then you'll get a 2-year warranty with it and they'll replace it if there are any issues. My wee maw has a Nexus 9 and it recently became corrupt after an OTA monthly security update from Google went awry. But they've replaced it and she's got another 2-year warranty from the date of getting the replacement

Thanks.

Almost certainly will be Nexus 9. Shame I wasn't looking last week - curry's shifted them at £130!
