Flora MaDonald
Carmichael's use to the establishment is over after the marvellous role he played in the referendum. All stops would've been pulled out if he was required. Guilty or not, he's finished.

aaid
was it not the same Parliamentary Standards Commission who assessed that Malcolm Rifkind and Jack Straw had done nothing wrong and had no conflict of interests when prostituting themselves for work ahead of the last election. i am pretty sure they will help Carmichael out similarly - he is in effect one of their own...... The problem with Rifkind and Straw was that they hadn't broken any of the rules - which shows you how bad the rules are. Carmichael has admitted himself he broke the rules. The specific sections of the code that has been reported on are: 10. Members shall base their conduct on a consideration of the public interest, avoid conflict between personal interest and the public interest and resolve any conflict between the two, at once, and in favour of the public interest. 14. Information which Members receive in confidence in the course of their parliamentary duties should be used only in connection with those duties. Such information must never be used for the purpose of financial gain. 16. Members shall never undertake any action which would cause significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House of Commons as a whole, or of its Members generally. Orraloon
If the election court finds against Carmichael then he would be barred from standing in any subsequent by-election. Cheers, didn't know that. Would it stop him going into the House of Lords?
aaid
Cheers, didn't know that. Would it stop him going into the House of Lords? I don't think there is any bar to being in the House of Lords. Even arsonists and drunks are allowed in. Squirrelhumper
I actually voted LibDem once, away back in 1987 or whenever. I feel dirty. I've voted for them too.
aaid
I voted Lib Dem at the 2005 GE. It was a completely tactical vote to try and oust Theresa May - a case of better the devil you don't know that the devil you do. Going into the election there was certainly a chance as she a majority of just over 3000 and the Lib Dems at the time controlled the local council. She doubled her majority and now has a majority of just under 30000.
Guest flumax
I still think whatever happens there will be a Libdem MP for Northern Isles. If AC goes, the unionist vote will rally around the alternative Libdem to stick it to the nats.
