Are you claiming he prevented Gallacher from playing the ball?

If he prevented Gallacher from playing the ball, it should have been a goal kick then...

Surely there's a fine line between prevention and distraction.

In fact couldn't they be interpreted as one of the same on occasion?

FFS, you are just not getting it are you.

To be interfering with play he actually had to TOUCH THE BALL - he didn't.

To be interfering with Gallacher, he would have had to prevent him from playing the ball - he didn't.

So tell me why linesmen flag for offside when a player is chasing the ball just about reaches it?

Are they only then interfering?

They will have been asked by the referee to do that if they are the only player going through, yes.

There is an argument that could be made that the law should be changed to consider situations like the one that led to the corner as offside, but under the law in its present state, the officials got that one correct.

The penalty award would follow the pre-season guidelines issued.

As for the flag staying down, did Goodwillie prevent Gallacher from "playing or being able to play the ball"?

The answer to that is no, so the corner award was correct.

Could you please break down the three tackles in question yesterday?

(You can use the Hearts the The Rangers thread if you wish.)

That's my angle.

To be fair to Cove, he doesn't make the rules and is merely highlighting them.

Understand that. Seems like the rules are open to interpretation and many referees can all have different understandings.

Doesn't help the regular supporter either.

Folk always want consistency.

With so much of the laws of the game down to interpretations, that is never really going to happen.

The current state of the offside law is probably as clear cut as it can actually get without going back to you are either offside or you are not.
