The polls say no. The Democrats big bet is people will feel the effects of an improving economy by the GE.  I am hoping the Democrats know something we don't  and have a plan, otherwise its a shit show come November.

It’s a bit mental the race for the top job in US politics is between an old pervert with dementia and an old pervert.

Genuinely don’t get how there’s a strong preference either way.  A Stanley cup half filled with soup would surely give either a run for their money

I don't understand how Trump wins, surely the cities and moderate states that backed Biden last time aren't going to switch to the Donald?

Incredible these are their choices.  You would think Nikki Haley would have gathered more support in the republican primaries.  Americans are a great but mad people.

In a country that has in excess of 100 million people who can be President, surely to God these can't be the best 2 candidates they can come up with.  Biden will be 86 by the end of his second term if he wins and Trump is likely to be in court on fraud and racketeering charges at the same time as he's campaigning for the White House, not to mention the cases he's lost recently including fraud (again!), defamation & sexual assault!

I just fail to understand how anybody could say "Trump is the lesser of two evils".  That's what a black american guy on the BBC said yesterday when asked his view, in a documentary.  It's like saying grass is purple or something.  How do you engage with that?😄

The court cases are one of the main reasons Trump wants to be president again, if he wins he’ll put people in position to get his charges dropped & pardon all the capitol insurrectionists.

I’m no fan of Trump but if I was American I would want a Republican winner.

Nae surprise there, you probably want Boris & Truss back as well.

Mr. Biden's team has pointed to an array of indications that the economy has rebounded remarkably well since he assumed office, including an unemployment rate that has been under 4 percent for two years and a stock market that has set record after record

yes, that’s a fair claim.  The S&P is through the roof.  It makes the performance of the FTSE look horrendous over the past ten years.

I would prefer someone more competent but with a right wing ideology, Thatcher/Lawson style.

it certainly doesnt look like joe biden thats for sure - barely knows which way is up.

shocking state of affairs in the world in general at the moment

I watched the NATO press conference he gave and it wasn't the shitshow I was expecting, he seemed pretty coherent and gave good answers, however he did call the vice president Trump and that's what has been picked up on as you would expect. Bottom line for me is I think the Democrats need to get whoever has the best chance of beating Trump in place, whether that's Biden or someone else because another 4 years of Trump is not something that needs repeating.

I never get involved in overseas politics on here as I know next to nothing, but fuck me, this whole election could be a monty python sketch.

The fact these 2 are the candidates for the most powerful country in the world would be utterly hilarious if it wasn’t so serious.

Can there be a denser country than America. ? I always think you need to vote at an election or put yourself forward, else you cant complain when things go tits up. But if I lived in the US I would categorically refuse to vote. If everyone did this then neither of them would win.

Is there a minimum turnout requirement in the US to legalise a win ? For example, if only 10 % of the population voted would it be legal to swear someone in ?

He did not even beat him in 2020...

So maybe Yes.

(Might interest some people on here to know how that election was stolen. Postal votes.)

If - as expected - Trump wins in November, what will have gone wrong with the Democrat Election Stealing Machine (TM)? I assume Trump will have won in spite of the machine doing its job, right?

This account just seems to regurgitate every obvious far right lie and deluded conspiracy theory going. Is it some sort of parody account?

Nah, it's just our thplinthy. A long time member who adds colour to the board (and god knows the Tamb needs it these days)

He certainly contributes more to the TAMB than somebody who posts 12 times in 12 years.

he wins because the person he is running against doesnt know what day it is,, the bigger question is who has been running america in the last 4 years,,,

Absolutely. I'll be sure to post non-stop shite from now on. That always improves online forums.

People trying to shut me up is pretty much why I have been on here so long. I kept falling into that trap...

There used to be a lot more savvy people on here. The balance has shifted and it is (really) hard work now. The lunatic with the 20 IDs who has the most honking patter on earth,  yet thinks he's Oscar Wilde, does not help either.

There were a few years there in particular during the darkest hours of the Salmond stitch-up where it was horrible posting on here. At the time I just could not countenance all the lies, still can't.

All that aggro is going to be nothing if things go the way I think they are going in Ukraine/Israel. I never seen propaganda levels like this in my lifetime, it is saturation point. People are absolutely frothing.

So I am not being that lone voice on here, no fucking way. 😃

I only really popped into to say 'I told you so'.  😉

That is the other thing, you never fucking listen. 🤡

i enjoy your posts and they make a welcome change from the blond loyalty you see the snp from many.

I like seeing different points of view and insights in the world affairs.

I honestly cant agree with this  A ‘great’ set of people would never in a million years let it get to this stage. For all the UK’s faults I cant see a situation like this being tolerated .
There will be great and good individuals , but collectively they are as useless as an SNP motorhome

I think the answer to that question is the same as any in any country: the cabinet and civil service.

Government ministers have always competed for the attention and favour of their President/Prime Minister. The difference with Biden is that he'll be much easier for them to manipulate, so in that sense isn't really 'in charge'.

If you think it's shite (and i'd agree with you in lots of cases), challenge it. Show why it's shite. That's what makes online forums interesting.
