Like our points from Malta won't count. If we draw tonight then win the remaining 3 we'd add 10 points to our 8. 18 points total, minus 6 for the Malta games leaves us on 12. Montenegro have 3 remaining games that matter: Romania who they drew with in the first game. Romania actually have a pretty mean defense and while they don't score a lot they're not easy to beat. Then 2 games, against the undefeated Poles who have 5 wins from 6, and against Denmark who they're only ahead of on goal difference. Bearing in mind that Montenegro are quite inconsistent, having already lost to Armenia in the group, which are the only points Armenia have outside of games against the bottom side, then to suddenly rack up two wins against difficult sides would be a bit of a surprise. It's not impossible that they'd get the 2 wins which they would need to get to 13 and be ahead of us, but it's unlikely. In their group they're level with Denmark right now, but Denmark have played the bottom side twice, so are really on 4 points, not 10. Assuming they lose to Poland, they'd need 3 wins to get ahead of us which is pretty unlikely as well given results so far. They play Armenia, Montenergo, Romania. Denmark have et to win 2 games in a row and they're going to have to win 3 in a row to be above us. Again it's inconsistency that's their enemy. Of course any side can suddenly find consistency, go on a little run and get some results.. but there's currently no reason to think that either of these two nations will do that. Correct the bottom teams don't count, I'd left that off to avoid complicating an already confusing picture. Montenegro would need 5 points from there 3 remaining 'live' games to leave Scotland's ar$e out the window. Home to Romania where they would be favourites Home to Denmark where they would be favourites against a team which will probably be out of the equation by then Then a tricky away game against a Poland team with nothing to play for as they will be through by then. 5 points not too difficult to foresee. Don't forget Scotland would need a draw between Slovakia and Slovenia tonight and wins for England against both even to have a chance of finishing second if they draw tonight..........MUST WIN! Or just go for the bait from the Daily Retard and fall for their headline that's clearly intended to put him under even more pressure. I am critical of the manager, so what. Just because we've slightly improved over the past couple of games, won't whitewash the fact how sh*te we've been before it. He should be under pressure from the press, he's had a pretty easy ride of it compared to other managers. EVERY game is a must win in a small qualification group. If we don't win tonight, do you honestly believe we'll be in the mix for the playoff? RabtheBruce
No, BRL, you're spot on: anything other than a win tonight and we're out.

Wins for England is hardly a forlorn hope! They haven't lost at home since 2000 in a competitive match. If we win all four games, it needs an unlikely set of results in every other group, or it requires Slovakia to beat England, to prevent us coming second. If we don't qualify from here, it's almost 100% our fault.

The fact England havent lost at home since 2000 means they are due a home defeat and Slovkia are capable of doing it. Plus England really aren't thst good right now. Either that or we'll finish second and be the worst runner up. Lucky white heather.......
Bino's
if tonights not a must win then why did strachan come out two games ago and say the Slovenia home game was must win technically points wise at that stage it wasn't, if we'd won all our remaining games etc etc etc absolutely everyone knows its a must win fud
McDange
Nonsense to suggest tonight is not a must win game. Almost by definition we should be beating teams in lower pots to get some points on the board. And the fact we drew with them at home makes this even more pressing. Anything less than 6 points from the next 2 games and it's game over for the World Cup, and probably Strachan too.
ProudScot
We could win all 4 matches and not make the play off so of course it's a must win. looking forward to the excuses from that fat whank McGhee after the match already... gusmac
pretty sure England lost to croatia in 2007 at home that stopped them qualifying. mclaren was manager.

andyD
I think Bosnia is our new hope for finishing last. they have 2 games left, current on 14 points (so 8 really). Their remaining games are against belgium (7 wins from 8, only conceding 3 goals) and Estonia (should be an easy win, tho Bosnia did just lose to Cyprus). Assuming Belgium beat them in October then that'll finish on a maximum of 11 points, which would leave them below us, since (assuming a win tonight) we need at least a win and a draw from the last 2. all is not lost, the sands have shifted a bit tho.
