An away midweek game in Norway after mcfudden’s hand ball red card conceding a pen had cost us in the home game a year before.

A must win game to keep us in with trying to get a play off for the WC. I watched this one in the house with a can of beer or 2 which was not bad for a Wednesday night. This was one of the best 1st halves I’ve seen against decent opposition away from home. Kenny miller who had been slated earlier in the year, was on fire! He grabbed the 1st goal of the game with a good finish. It didn’t take long till he was on the score sheet again.. YESSSSSSSSSS was the cry from the couch. 2 up and cruising!

Miller would have got a hat trick most likely but he had to go off injured before the half was out. Still, a good position to be in for the rest of the game. Held on and could have made it 3 before Norway got one back in the last few mins.. Squeaky bum time but the final whistle went. Yessss.

Blah blah brief bit of highlights then BBC Scotland jumped straight to BBC England to show us N Ireland v England which had already played about 20 mins.

Motty “we welcome viewers from Scotland to the game…you can put your bagpipes away now”

I kept my bagpipes..haggis..shortbread.. and kilt out just to despite him! Glad I did as the whole thing went flying in the air again as N Ireland (Healy) smashed home a later winner and N Ireland won 1-0. YUSSSSEASSSSSSSS!!!!

A delightful Wednesday afternoon was had by all.

Now… onto to an easy home match v Belarus in October

Apart from Millers goals, my other memory that night is the total look on Thunder on Ian Wrights face in the studio after the England game that was a total picture :-))

Recall they mentioned our score and Wright muttered under his breath "Scottish manager!", when then took the conversation into a whole "get Eriksson out" debate

Aye, must-win game and we played 4-1-4-1 with Dailly as a holding midfielder over an attacking player!

To be honest, Smith had played that style since he came through the door..... it was more the fact he had about 3/4 strikers on the bench v Belarus at Hampden (Faddy was suspended, yet he still had Beattie, O'Connor, Thompson and Riordan I think), and the only sub he made the whole game was Maloney on at half time
