deecie
How will they know you're a UK/GB passport holder if you don't have it with you?
Robroysboy
As you are not leaving the EU its not an issue. If flying you will need your passport.

spud1982
Some airlines you just need photo ID to Ireland. Aer lingus actually accept bus pass. Know Ryanair only accept passport
Flure
If going by ferry no, if flying yes (as passport is only form of identity accepted for flying....) Erm, no. I've only ever used my Driving Licence flying into and out of Ireland.
SteveMcD
As you are not leaving the EU its not an issue. If flying you will need your passport. Try getting a ferry to Holland without a passport. Also as regards flying, an ID card issued by most EU countries is sufficient.

deecie
hell. Some of the advice here is awful. The UK and Ireland share a common travel zone so that you don't need your passport to pass between the 2 countries. If you are travelling to Ireland with Ryanair their policy (that you agreed to when booking your ticket) says you must use your passport as ID. Other airlines should accept other photo ID. If you're crossing into Ireland from the North there's zero chance you'll have to show anything to anyone. I'd also like to point out my earlier pedantry was excellent. Brassrubber
Its not illegal but there is a £5 charge for not flying with ryanair
Green_Tide_Rising
Quick question. I assume don't need passport if UK/GB passport holder to enter Republic? No Passport needed to enter here...anyone on here who showed their P/port while flying here could equally have shown other ID and that would have done You need official photo ID if flying ....just doesnt have to be passport If your getting the train /bus / driving down from Northern Ireland ......you wont need anything....unless you are very unlucky to get stopped by security Ryanair will accept other photo ID instead of a passport - see below http://www.ryanair.com/ie/terms-and-conditions/regulations-traveldocumentation/ Edited March 17, 2015 by Green_Tide_Rising

Green_Tide_Rising
I wouldn't want to chance it turning up without my passport. Once your ID is official photo ID then there is nothing to chance mate Ive regulary flown to the UK with just photo ID on Ryanair As per their website: "UK Any photo ID which matches the passenger name in the booking." But if bringing the passport makes you feel more at ease then fair enough Edited March 17, 2015 by Green_Tide_Rising
HaggisNeepsNTatties
Ryanair policy is passport only for international flights. Rugby ref Nigel Owens was not allowed to fly over for a Leinster game a few weeks ago cause he didn't have passport.
