Toepoke
One for a Friday night music thread. There was a great edition of Get It On last night featuring little known original versions of famous songs. These two in particular surprised me:- Tina's is the definitive version but this was the original... Hall and Oates wrote many hit singles but not this one.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQmktElSjvY
Flora MaDonald
Torn. Natalie Imbruglia, whom believe it or not graced the Horseshoe Bar with her presence.

killiefaetheferry
Slightly off topic but my Mrs has just laughed me out regarding my seethe every time I heard the Mark Ronson abberation of Stop Me on the radio a couple of years ago. Similarly, Many of Horror and It's My Life (Talk Talk), although I can just about cope with the No Doubt version these days.

wanderer
Not strictly a cover but you can hear why the Verve had to hand over the royalties to Bitter Sweet Symphony... I remember when I first heard about this, but I thought it was a direct lift of the Stones song, which I listened to again and again, and just could not figure out how the Stones had a case..... Eventually tracked this version of the song down and as you said, clear as day how the Verve got stung for it.
