ErsatzThistle
Does anyone else here have friends or family who send them Christmas cards with big, glossy formal pictures of their family on the front ? Or how about calendar filled with full colour photos of their kids ? We get both every year without fail from family down South and whilst they obviously mean well, quite honestly, we think it is creepy as fück. Any other weird, creepy Christmas gifts or mementos ? sbcmfc
We get that for the grandparents with pictures of the grandkids, but for anyone else, that's just weird! (Is the family portrait Christmas card an American thing?)

johnnie x
It doesn't get any more creepy or sinister than this
scotlad
I had a work colleague once who bought another work colleague a stuffed deid crow in a jar as a 'Secret Santa' present. That's more Edgar Allan Poe creepy as opposed to Ned Flanders creepy though.
in5omniac
My granny used to (and may well still do) hang up on her walls, these little angels made of hair. We never dared ask what kind of hair they were or if she made them herself.

ErsatzThistle
We get that for the grandparents with pictures of the grandkids, but for anyone else, that's just weird! (Is the family portrait Christmas card an American thing?) Aye it seems a kind of American thing to do. Must have caught on over here from people seeing it on TV and films. Dressing up in formal clothes and posing as the happy nuclear family. Fake nonsense and it just looks strange. We've got a family portrait taken nearly 100 years ago and they look much more relaxed and at home than in those modern day things. Yes, we get formal pictures and a family newsletter thing from one bunch. Utter nonsense. Think it's a ex-pat thing....but they're nae ex-pats! We're always left wondering just what we're supposed to do with the big stupid, glossy calendar with the kids pictures on it that our relations send us every year. We can't possibly hang it up, it's really weird and seriously creepy, their not even our bloody kids ! Anyway last years picture for March was of their kids in bath . Now just what the feck would a plumber or electrician think if they wandered in to fix something and saw that hanging on the wall ? It goes in the bin at New Year.
