Greatest defender of all time?

He was a fantastic midfielder as well. Probably better in midfield, IMO.

When he moved back into defence he played the old fashioned sweeper position. Nobody was better than Baresi in that position, IMO. The Kaiser was a fantastic all round footballer though. He would have be a great player in any position on the park.

In his later years I thought that Mario Zagallo looked quite similar to Beckenbauer. Only three men have won the World Cup as a player and manager. Zagallo died last week. Beckenbauer died this week. Deschamps is shitting himself.

Aye mentioned that to some mates earlier, bizarre coincidence. Literally two days between their deaths.

ITV news tribute was a disgrace, most of it was about the 1966 final and 1990 semi.

Lost a world final at Wembley according to Sky, great tribute👍

Talksport was the same. They got Harry redknapp on who talked about Bobby Moore for ten minutes because apparently Moore was the same as Beckenbauer

Great story how he grew up an 1860 Munich fan and was set to sign for them, when one of their players smacked him in the face during an under 14s game. Which prompted him to sign for the city's lesser team Bayern instead, with obvious long term consequences!

Die Ohrfeige "The Slap" is this regarded as a significant moment in German football history.

Ironically the chap who hit the Kaiser was called King (Gerhard König).
