With regards crimes and sentences i am really struggling to understand how she can get 6 and a half years for this all things considered.

Maybe it's me but how can you have sympathy with the "victim" who "agreed to wear a blindfold at all times when they met" ?

A woman who wore a prosthetic penis and tricked her blindfolded friend into sex has been jailed.

Gayle Newland, 27, of Willaston, Cheshire, created an online persona pretending to be a man and continued the deceit for two years.

A retrial jury found her guilty of committing three sexual assaults, which she denied, using a prosthetic penis without her victim's consent.

She was jailed at Manchester Crown Court for six-and-a-half years.

Sentencing her, Recorder of Manchester, Judge David Stockdale QC, said: "Truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction.

"The truth, the whole truth, here is as surprising as it is profoundly disturbing."

He added: "It is difficult to conceive of a deceit so degrading or so damaging for the victim upon its discovery."

Newland was originally jailed for eight years in November 2015 after she was convicted of the same offences, which happened in 2013.

But the conviction was later quashed on the grounds the trial judge's summing up of the case was not fair and balanced.

During the retrial the victim, who gave evidence behind a curtain, told the court she was persuaded by the defendant to wear a blindfold at all times when they met.

She said she only found out she was having sex with a woman - rather than a man - when she finally took off her mask.

The victim told the court she thought she was having sex with Kye Fortune - a fake Facebook profile Newland originally created when she was 15 years old, using an American man's photographs and videos.

She said: "There was no point until the day I took the blindfold off that I thought for one second that a woman was the person behind this."

Fraud charge

Newland denied concealing her gender and claimed both women were gay and struggling with their sexuality when they met and had sex, with her as Kye, during role-play.

The defendant received concurrent terms of six years for three counts of sexual assault.

She was jailed for an extra six months for defrauding her former employers - an internet advertising agency - of £9,000 by creating fake client profiles between March 2014 and September 2015.

The court heard she had held a senior position at the firm, which paid bloggers to post content.

Simon Medland QC, prosecuting, said Newland "manipulated" the firm's payments system in which contributors were rewarded with small sums for posting content.

Judge Stockdale earlier lifted reporting restrictions on the fraud.

The retrial jury was not told of the fraud conviction until it returned its verdicts.

Couldn't understand this one either. Maybe if it had been blindfold tied up in bed only stuff but she went on car journeys, out sunbathing or watching tv with the blindfold on. I assumed it was one girl who couldn't handle thinking of herself as attracted to another woman and another who liked to be manly but still a woman and therefore no one deserves to go to jail. Then again I've only read about it and I assume the jury had much more compelling evidence.

I can't get my head round this either.  I can only assume the victim wasn't able to touch Newland at all?  As you say though, the jury must have heard other evidence.

I thought it was a strange story, obviously she has done something wrong, although I'm not sure I think it's rape. The offender must have issues with herself, and needs to address them, and the victim has been on the end of a crime, but the whole story is quite bizarre.

The sentence is very strong, you see 'real' rapists get similar sentences after using force, intimidation etc. I really don't like saying real, but can't think of a better way of putting it.

I guess the key thing here is that although the woman consented to have sex, the person she thought she was consenting to having sex with wasn't in reality who she had sex with.

The only parallel I could think of would be that a man picks up a woman, she agrees to have sex with him, he ties her up and blindfolds her and then his mate comes in and has sex with her.

I think in that circumstance every right minded person would consider that rape.

I see where you're coming from with your example, however this went on for 2 years - surely you'd have an inkling?  I don't know, strange all round.

Would it not be more like pretending you were a pilot/doctor/lawyer to get someone into bed, when you actually worked in Asda?

It's all a bit hard to understand.

Having spoken to a few people, we still can't understand where the conviction has come from.  There must be lots of evidence not known to the public.

That's rape without any doubt but this is similar to dating websites, lies lies and a few more wee lies. I know there's hairless men but did she never even brush up against the other girls breasts? I would love to know all the evidence as there must something absolutely mind changing in there.

If a swimming costume and bandages were worn I can almost believe the victim was unaware it was a woman however the offender was supposed to be Kye, a Filipino bloke . Did they never talk? Did the victim not suspect a female Mancunian accent ? At least I am presuming she had a north england accent. 

I have seen next to nothing about the victims background therefore can only presume she had severe psychological problems and that Gayle Newland knew this and took advantage. Newland herself seems to be clinically diagonised with numerous issues, Asperger syndrome and gender Dysphoria. I'm not entirely sure 6 years in a woman's prison is going to help with that. 

Very strange , as others have said, must be much more information that has not been published.
