Capital Saint
Anytime I’ve seen a ref pacing out the 10 yard they only take normal steps. A yard is quite a long stretch, especially for some of the short erse refs. Effectively, they are only pacing out 7 or 8 yards.
sjd1972
Always thought they should pace out 12 yards so as when the encroachment occurs the wall might be at 10 yards.
saintydave
Why do they wait til the players are behind the line before spraying it? Does my nut in
hauniscots
Why do they wait til the players are behind the line before spraying it? Does my nut in Correct. The reason it was brought in (as well as reducing encroachment) was to save the time the players retreat at snails pace to where the ref is standing at the 10 yard mark. Now he still fkn waits for the players to retreat at snails pace to the 10 yard mark before he sprays the thing. So frustrating.
redstevie007
Correct. I thought it was to make it easier for a ref to see at a glance if a wall had encroached on the 10 yards. Either way, can't deny the impact a wee can of shaving foam's had on what was an infuriating part of the game. Maybe introduce a tin of mace for penalty box wrestling now? scoobydoo
they should have a tape measure and tape it out. Laser technology could also measure it. Edited December 12, 2015 by scoobydoo
Fred_Zeppelin
Free kick at CP a couple of games ago. Ball is level with the outside of the D, ref lines up the wall about 2 yards in front of the penalty spot. Even with the pitch markings helping them they can't get it right. They should pace out ten yards, properly, make the line and book anyone who doesn't instantly get behind it.

sbcmfc
They could practice in training pacing out 10 yards. I'd guess it's about 12 normal steps? The same way long jumpers pace out where to start their run up.

If more folk got booked for these thing they'd soon stop doing them.

Yep same as the wrestling at corners and diving\feining injury start giving penalties and cards etc and it will soon stop. The game isnruined by y players and shitebag refs
thewolf_1980
Do you know what else is a waste of time? Linesmen calling substitutes back after they've run onto the park to check their studs. It happened twice at Ibrox yesterday, delaying the game. I have never seen a sub told to go back in to change their lethal metal studs before and surely no club still have studs like that so what's the bloody point of this archaic nonsense?! Fred_Zeppelin
Ref today stepping out 10 yards, 2 St J players in the way, he just steps it out around them.
