EddardStark
Can anyone recommend a pocket digital camera. Looking for ideas for my wife's Christmas present. Just looking for a decent quality one. I have a little Canon camera with a 5x optical zoom, 16.0 mega pixels, whatever that means. Cheers

Martin63
I've had 3 Panasonic Lumix cameras over the years - all have been great. http://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/cameras-camcorders/lumix-digital-cameras---point-and-shoot.html Good quality photos, great zoom and very high quality video. The sound quality with the video is also very good - on many cameras it's rotten

McDange
I used to stick to the Nikon coolpix point and shoot range that I always quite liked. http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/coolpix/ Although these days most smartphones have good quality cameras built into them if it's just for point and shoot - and is one less thing to carry in your pocket or sporran! Unless you are printing your photos you don't really need more than 6 megapixels.
Deedee
The Sony RX100 compacts are supposed to be the business. The new one is over 800 bucks but you could get an earlier model much cheaper.
Big Col
i bought a new compact about 18 months ago. As above the sony RX100 was getting all the rave reviews but I wasnt willing to spend that much. In the end I went for the canon S110. The S120 was also available but i didn't think it was worth the extra £100. I've been very happy with my S110.

RenfrewBlue
I have the DMC-TZ35 and it's been great. Were on our second TZ 30 and they're really good for a simple compact. Not all that expensive either. Will probably just update to newer model when this one dies too.
