Orraloon
The best way to describe them would be "The SNP... Without the evil!". And, without the votes.
Scunnered
And, without the votes. Proving that the tartan socialists are not interested in progressive politics. Oh how I'll laugh... And cry inside. Edited March 18, 2015 by Scunnered
Scunnered
And, without the votes. I'm curious... What's your thoughts on the coalition of prominent Yes supporting progressives? Obviously the intention is to replace Labour as opposition to oppose the SNP's cuts and austerity. Welcome addition? Worried it will split the Yes vote? Or? antidote
Pray tell scunnered. Where is the money going to come from to oppose the austerity cuts that have been foisted on the SNP by our pay masters in London? Please don't say increase the tax on the working class because no party will ever get elected into Government with that policy. Just stating a fact. The SNP are implementing Tory austerity with barely a whimper. The TUSC are standing on a manifesto that they would reject the austerity measures much like the North English councils in the 80's. I imagine SLP will run a similar manifesto.
Scunnered
I'm sure we can all agree that change can not be brought with tick box politics, it requires action and movement politics. A mantra held dear by the RIC.

antidote
I agree with the sentiments of what you say, but to outright blame the SNP for the unionist austerity cuts is just not plausible.

Scunnered
Still not say where the money will come from to run vital services. It's impossible for me to answer that when the manifesto doesn't exist yet, if it's not costed at the time then it should be adequately scrutinised. The obvious answers to me would be to reverse the tax relief for businesses and put the money back into the services they were taken from, and look at a model of the SSP & Green suggested Service Tax to replace council tax. Clyde1998
I never, I did say that the Scottish Government are implementing Tory austerity. That's only because the Scottish budget has been cut (in real terms at least) by Westminster. Edited March 18, 2015 by Clyde1998
Scunnered
That's only because the Scottish budget has been cut (in real terms at least) It's not only that is it? It's partly that, and partly because the Scottish Government put businesses before services.

Obviously the intention is to replace Labour as opposition to oppose the SNP's cuts and austerity. Welcome addition? Worried it will split the Yes vote? Or? Probably just tinkering at the edges. I am guessing that the numbers wont be enough to have a significant effect in any more than a handful of seats. I think Scottish Tories will have a much bigger impact. Don't the Greens favour a land value tax? Either way, both systems are better and fairer alternatives to the council tax, IMHO. It is high time a viable alternative was put forward to replace CT. Yeah they'll be standing candidates. SSP are currently considering whether to field their candidates under their banner as well, but that's early with Jonathan and Kitty Kat only going through the proposals with them in the past fortnight. Both, if they chose to stand, would made excellent candidates and welcome additions to Holyrood, IMO. Thanks for that Scunnered. Interesting times. Interesting times. Indeedy doodle. Jonathan in particular has been excellent in putting the case forward for a left of SNP opposition in Holyrood. It's no doubt going to be Sillars who grabs the headlines... And probably for the wrong reasons , but any success of SLP will be down to Jonathan's excellent ground work, he's done the seemingly impossible and found common ground within the left. Scunnered
Yeah they'll be standing candidates. SSP are currently considering whether to field their candidates under their banner as well, but that's early with Jonathan and Kitty Kat only going through the proposals with them in the past fortnight. Looks like negotiations have went well. From SLP newsletter: While still in its early stages, the Scottish Left Project as it is known may contain the seeds of a politics which involves both the SSP and forces who share a left, anti-capitalist, green view of Scotland’s future that has considerable support among voters. Scotland’s parliament faces re-election next year and the most optimistic prospect would be that the radical left including the SSP could stand candidates on an agreed left programme and maximise the electoral clout of socialist ideas. Given the partly proportional voting system it is not unrealistic to aim for socialist representatives being elected to the Holyrood parliament.
