Pool Q
Beat me to it Charlie. There is definitely more than a little of Spinal Tap to UFO, much as may not have been aware of that at the time.

Charlie Endell
Mechanix is the tenth album by the British hard rock band UFO; it was released in 1982. The contemporary music-press adverts on the album's release carried the tag-line 'Mechanix: it will tighten your nuts'.

fringo
Sorry . I did chortle though when replaying that though. We did think it was so cool back then.
Charlie Endell
I did chortle though when replaying that though. We did think it was so cool back then. It's brilliant - I've watched it several time now! Highlights are the second guitarist starting on the boards then moving to guitar and the bass player (especially the bit where he moves up beside the lead guitarist). I think I watched that at the time on the Whistle Test. Doctor, Doctor got into the charts believe it or not, there was an appearance on TOTP too. I bought the single, 'limited edition' in clear vinyl, might even still have it somewhere, although haven't thought about it for about 20 years. Pete Way the bassist was a classic hell raiser, booze/drugs/groupies the lot, pretty sure he was basically hammered for most of the late 70s and 80s. Remarkably he is still alive. Flora MaDonald
I saw them for the first time on that tour supported by Liar at the Apollo. I knew Tony Blair could play the 6-string, but not to that level.

Toepoke
UFO definitely inspired Spinal Tap, but were also a fine band in their prime. The likes of Iron Maiden stole loads from them as you can see below:- Edited February 21, 2015 by Toepoke
fringo
Some good UFO nostalgia........ Anyway, back on Bon, here's a bit of an AC/DC documentary I found. Not much Bon sadly but Angus does talk about the school uniform idea (about 5 1/2 mins in)
fringo
Found Part 2 - a good few bits about Bon Scott and the band explain his passing in 1980
wanderer
Anyone at the AC/DC gig where Angus came out with a Rangers scarf (think it was the FTATR tour in 81ish)? Also was it the 79 gig that was close to being axed half way through the gig because the fans started wreaking the place? Malcolm talks about the 78 gig on the Australian version of family jewels and said the Scotland kit idea came about because they had been at the Scotland v England home nations match at Hampden during the day (Bon Scott's scotland 78 World Cup scarf was in display in the Kelvinegrove a few years back). Hate to pull up Malcolm's memory given his health, but that gig was 3 weeks before the England game (May 20th)... http://www.ac-dc.net/archives/subcategory.php?city_id=

Toepoke
Looking at that gig list, they played Glasgow Uni on the night of the England game in 76 so maybe that's where Malcolm got mixed up?...
fringo
Part 6 Poignant line from Malcolm Young "there's no retiring from this band". C'est lad vie sadly. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, and sometimes great (that's me BTW, not Malcolm).
