thewelk
Azerbaijan less so. My passport photo was rejected for being a 'selfie'. It also cost 80 and hasn't arrived in the fortnight since applying. There are limits to be respected.

snoopyhill
We had three days in Instanbul during April, the public transport was excellent and cheap. We were loaned an Istanbulkart from the hotel, they are about 7tl deposit (if you keep your receipt you can claim this back), load some money on it at machines located at stops and then it's approx. 2tl (50p) per journey. We shared 1 between 3 and used it on trams, buses and I was told you can use it on the Ferry as well. We were recommended a cruise up and down the Bosphorus, it lasted an hour and a half and I thought it was really good, cost 12tl and another 12tl for a headset with English commentary. We are having a couple of days there on the way to Tbilisi I'm really looking forward to going back. As others have said visa is bought on line and lasts for 6 months. And yes the Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar etc are on the European side.
