Robroysboy
8 month slaughter of common wealth soilders remembered today. Winston Churchill's plan to invade turkey led to a 8 month campaign with huge loss of life. The mel gibson film is worth a watch if you haven't seen it. The turks had the terrain advantage and were never in danger of loosing this campaign, due to them being protected by being dug into the hills. Robroysboy
My Granda (who I lived with for a couple of years) was there, and I got his WW I jacket after he died. Did he ever talk about it. Mr papa was in ww2 but very rarely spoke about it. Hated the germans until the day he died.

thorbotnic
My great grandad was there, on a hospital ship. Apparently it was the heat and lack of supplies that make it that much worse. It seems to get forgotten that 5x as many British soldiers as ANZAC died there, to be honest.

perthTam
Got a brass shell casing in the house that "silenced a machine gun post" at Gallipoli - nae idea why my great uncle thought it would be good idea to bring something as heavy as that back! Used as a doorstop - maybe I should look after it better.

Hammy
Great drama that. Harrowing ending though. J While it was a good watch, historically described as "100% tripe" For a more factual account from the war museum. http://archive.iwm.org.uk/upload/package/2/gallipoli/pdf_files/azmak.pdf
