exile
It's one thing to bash the Scottish nation albeit with a contempt ironically usually reserved for foreign countries. It's even understandable for them to bash any economic policies they don't like, like socialism (or to deride Scotland's reliance on oil, while happily contemplating retaining Orkney and Shetland presumably because of, er, oil) What I don't understand is the continued pathetic obsession with Alex Salmond and attempts to link to Hilter and Nazism. No reasonable politican - however loathed - from Jim Murphy to Danny Alexander - would seriously make those connections, yet our supposed serious newspapers continue to print stuff that would embarrass a kindergarden conversation. weekevie04
"writes Bruce Anderson" Isn't it horrific that the 'proud' Jocks en masse voted no. Makes you never want to wear a kilt or support 'Scatlaan' at the ol' Rugby ever again until Frelsi.
neilser
Anderson is fecking unhinged - have had a quick Google search and it seems that he's keen on torture: http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/commentators/bruce-anderson/bruce-anderson-we-not-only-have-a-right-to-use-torture-we-have-a-duty-1899555.html

So torture advocate and "passive smoking isn't harmful" are turning their "piercing" scrutiny to the independence debate. We are surely blessed to have such discerning eyes tell us how to behave properly.
exile
"Engineers rule China. Lawyers lead the US. We get bluffers and blaggers" Quite an interesting opinion piece in The Sunday Times about how UK politics is dominated by people studying PPE - philosophy politics and economics - including not only the party leaders and key cabinet/shadow cabinet members but even leading journalists such as Nick Robinson and Robert Peston. It includes criticisng David Cameron for being a lightweight, among other things blaming him for the Edinburgh agreement that nearly lost the Union. Goes on to note that Americans tend to be laywers, and China, engineers. (summarising crudely). Has a final dig at UKIP and SNP as being even worse for being parochial - didn't manage to point out that Nicola Sturgeon is a lawyer (and credited as one of architects of the Edinburgh Agreement). http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/comment/columns/article1500366.ece Elsewhere in that paper, an appreciative piece on Andrew Marr, revealing his empathy with Labour and in particular admiration for Donald Dewar. adamntg
I think the idea is of a referendum where parts of Scotland that vote No would have to join with England would be the best way to secure a resounding Yes. Good idea Bruce.
