aaid
Football anoraks out there might be interested to know that today marks the 150th anniversary of the first game held at York Road, the home of Maidenhead United. This was a friendly between Maidenhead FC and Marlow which the hosts won 2-0. Nothing remarkable about that but as York Road remains to this day the home of Maidenhead United, and the club has played there since that first game in 1871, this makes York Road the oldest continually used senior football ground in the world. Tonight, the Berkshire Magpies take on Stockport County in the National League, sadly due to COVID restrictions no fans are allowed in but it promises to be a special evening. https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/maidenheadunited/news/150-years-at-york-road--be-part-of-football-history-from-your-home-2597711.html Edited February 16, 2021 by aaid

I love things like that. As you will probably know I am an Armadale Thistle supporter and proud to have played with them. They played in the Scottish Second division , I think it was the 20's. Drew Rangers in the Scottish Cup. Colin Stein and Joe Baker were their before Hibs, Arsenal and Rangers. Baker went to Torino with Denis Law. Love reading about all these stories. Last time I signed for Armadale Benny Brazil was assistant. What a gentleman. Football is the greatest game in the world. Especially for making friends. Rolling hIlls
If you want to read a book, buy the Fabulous Baker Boys. Joe and Gerry. What a book and interesting story that is. Joe played for England and |Gerry for USA. Only because that is where they were born and that was the rules at that time. But they were Scottish through and through. Great read.
