  1. And I'm not asking the politics of whoever scores the winner.
  2. Bunch of dinosaurs, future's bright but it's not Orange!
  3. Keep going, the only poll that ultimately matters is on Thursday.
  4. Same paper has this as its headline. Mail doesn't do irony. Image hasn't come out but I'm sure someone will know how to show it
  5. Been rereading Rogue Nation by Alan Clements, would have made a great film but that time has passed. Opening page has shocked US President Todd MacFarlane commenting on Yes victory, "Well, I'll be @!*@ed. Who would have thought the old country would have the balls. Goddam polls never get anything right." Prophetic words!
  6. The Billy Bragg clip from another thread is pretty good. Not heavy weight political analysis but sums it up why a socialist or internationalist would vote Yes
  7. Go for it. I was pessimistic early on in the week but for some reason the optimism's returned. Time for the people of Scotland to take Scotland's future into their own hands.
  8. Used to read the Guardian, grown increasingly disenchanted with it. No surprises that it's for status quo as far as the union is concerned. Doesn't worry me, think it's a views are a bit of an irrelevance, can't see anyone voting No cos of their views.
  9. Agreed, can understand his anger but now is the time for a cool head and passion channelled by reason. I've not yet heard a decent reason for keeping the union from BT that hasn't bene countered, the arguments are all on the Yes side.
  10. Was reminded of this because of what's been happening over the last few days. Not the best of videos but great lyrics, originally written as a broadside against Reagan but some of these lines seem kind of appropriate for the death throes of the union. And with a name like that somewhere down the line he must have some Scots ancestry: You've got covert action / Prejudice to extremes You've got primitive cunning / And high tech means You've got eyes everywhere / But people see through you You've got good manipulators / Got your store of dupes You've got the idiot clamour / Of your lobby groups You like to play on fears / But people see through you You've got instant communication / Instant data tabulation You got the forces of occupation / But you don't get capitulation Cause people see through you You've got the sounding brass / You've got the triumph of the will You do what you want to / And we pay the bills you hype the need for sacrifice / but people see through you You've got anti-matter language / Contrived to conceal You've been lying so long / You don't know what's real You're a figment of your own imagination / And people see through you You've got lip service tributaries / You've got death fetish mercenaries You hold the tickets to the cemetaries / You're big and bad and scary But people see through you
  11. I can see it all coming down like a pack of cards as people see through the blatant lies and spin.
  12. Kind of shows how utterly gutless Cameron is, sly meetings behind closed doors, promise of a knighthood perhaps but not got the backbone to have a proper debate, utterly contemptible.
  13. And how exactly is her leaving meant to encourage a No vote?
  14. Incredible that it was that long ago.
  15. Absolutely. Scotland will be independent again, let's not do it when the last drop of oil has been passed against the wall. I think the rather belated attempts by London based politicians, the firebombing and scaremongering actually show this is an opportune time for Scotland to liberate herself from a political union that is past its sell by date.
  16. Fair enough as I said it was a perception based on people I knew
  17. shame that QPR got promoted I'd hoped that Donaldson might have got a few more games if they'd stayed in the Championship.
  18. I agree with Ersatz Thistle that this seems to be getting more of a problem. It's also one that has affected Northern Ireland losing players to the Republic. I think part of it might be success, England have been more successful than we have in recent years (at least they qualify) and same with the Republic over their smaller neighbours. I also wonder if there is an issue that our diaspora is not as strong as it once was. I had several mates who would have been eligible to play for both England and Scotland when we were younger, there was never any doubt that we considered our allegiance was to Scotland even if we hadn't been born there or one parent was English etc. I think those of Scottish descent nowadays don't do that as much, people of Irish descent seem to me to be much more likely to be proud of their heritage whereas for some of us the cringe sets in and at some level that might actually have to do with the fact that the Republic is an independent country and we aren't. All very anecdotal In know but it's my perception and I don't know how usual it is.
  19. Three posh English boys go up to Scotland to tell us how to vote, can't see it going well. I don't think any of them can be trusted.
  20. I could have sworn that the leader of the No campaign had rather publicly and rather recently said Scotland could use any currency it wanted.
