  1. Charlie a visit to our new ground holds little appeal for me...and I'm a life long Saints fan. Iain I believe the last time we finished in the top half of the top division was about 85.
  2. Decent Morton support ..ours was piss poor. Years of truly dreadful home displays are catching up with us. Was quite encouraged during the first half but we all knew what would happen in the second. It happens every feckin week. Sit deeper and deeper till we concede. Surprised it took Morton so long. Difficult to see where a result is coming from. We are a shambles at the minute.
  3. Last time 3 of us booked via a dodgy bassa into the Hotel Diplomat. Turned up at hotel to find that we, along with loads of others , had been stitched up by this pr@ck. We milled about at reception trying to work out our next move when a wee guy in a wheelchair who was hanging about beckoned us to go with him. He spoke only very fragmented English and we didn't know what was going on as he led us into a v nice house at the back of the hotel. He basically kicked his son out his bedroom..stuck a couple of extra beds in and let us crash in his house for three days. They fed us , poured gut rot vodka down our necks and he got his brother in law out his bed in the middle of the night when we left to take us to the airport for our Riga flight. He took a fraction of what the hotel were apparently going to charge us and not a penny more. He even offered to have a 'party' in his home village (outside Tbilisi) in our honour if we ever came back...and he'd fix us up with pretty Georgian girls !!!! Fantastic family , amazing hospitality and to be fair that hospitality was mirrored everywhere we went in town. So wish I was over there just now but just not possible this time.
  4. First time in a good while I've been down to Cappielow. I look forward to that exciting post match atmosphere when we march up opposite sides of the road separated by half a dozen polis and the resident Paisley/Greenock hard men goad each other with predictable shouts of 'junkie/soapdodger' and various 'come ahead' gestures. Then theres the thrill of passing the corner at the home end and dodging the missiles thrown by young Greenock scamps on the embankment. Finally there's that feeling of anticipation of you return to your motor/bus to see if the windows and tyres are in one piece. I believe theres also a game of football going to take place. Normally when we play down there you don't worry about the result when you put on your coupon - it's just a question of selecting the correct margin of victory. On this occasion all bets are off - we've been truly honking so far. So bad in fact I think we'll only win by 2. Apologies to the many sound 'Ton fans I've met on Scotland duty.
  5. Aye - Charlie was excellent - for the first 60 mins of every match - after which he'd be blowing out his fat a*se. Isma was superb....kinda got the goal feeling every time he got the ball in an advanced area of the pitch. Danny pulled a rabbit out the hat with him. Graeme Carey's first spell with us was on loan...he was fit , hungry and outstanding. Rory Loy (who we got at the same time and has gone on to score goals elesewhere) - was dreadful in the few appearances he made.
  6. Harsh Marky. A couple of seasons back I thought he was the best we'd produced in a long time and a long way ahead of McLean..despite being a few years younger. Last season though he was abysmal .. just like everyone else(McLean apart).
  7. Wee tip on food/drink. If you come out Termini station most of the major sights in the city are to the West/North and most tourists spend all their time in these areas. I'm sure the touristy part of town has loads of excellent places to eat and drink with quality food and resonable prices. I haven't f**** found them though. Rome is one of my favourite cities - possibly number 1 - but there are a frightening number of lazy chefs serving up half hearted p*sh to American tourists at extortionate rates. Therefore I recommend you head East of the station into San Lorenzo. The main campus of Sapienza Uni is nearby and the surrounding area has loads of great wee restaurants and pizza joints. They actually have Italian folk in them too...unlike the rest of the city. My wife and I spent every evening there on our last visit (Sept 2013) and it was cracking. Wish i could remember the name of one restaurant in particular - we had 2 huge courses of top quality Itialian scran, a carafe of decent red wine and complimentary Limoncellos for about 40-50 Euros between us. If i mind the name or the street I'll post it here but there are plenty other choices so have a wee Google before you go. They have a wee square in the middle of the area where loads of young studenty types meet up to drink and blether late at night. You get buskers and bands giving ramdom 'gigs'. Shops around seeling cairry oots for pennies. Makes for a decent night out after stuffing your face food and wine. Whole area is a bit 'rough and ready' by Roman standards which makes it 'pretty nice' by our standards and is safe as houses.
  8. Deecie-the guy to his left is Stevie Paterson..MP for Stirling and you are correct. He's hasnt missed many trips in the last 15 years or so.
  9. Oh dear Marky..as a fellow bud and Yes man it pains me to say it ..but we could fall out over this?. All I can suggest is listen to the Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap or Powerage albums and let me know if you still think they are Pish ?
  10. Aye delighted with this. Saw Dumbarton a couple of times last year (when they finished an excellent 5th) and was v impressed. For a part time club in an primarily full time league they've done very well. As with Hartley at Alloa - Murray was always going to want a full time club eventually. Whether coming to Paisley is the right move for him remains to be seen. Our fans are notoriously demanding, moany b*****ds. We have little in the way of finance and we'll certainly be up against some stiff competition no matter how the playoffs unfold. If he is allowed to get involved in the transfer market early this summer and bring in some decent experience to blend with our multitude of kids it might just work.
  11. Ah what a blast from the past. Cheers Exile. One of the finest episodes of one of the finest TV shows ever made. It should be compulsory viewing for anyone debating the principle of mutually assured destruction.
  12. This season has been one long, agonising pile of pish for St Mirren fans. We've been in relegation trouble every year bar one(I think) since we came up and I can sympathise with some opposing fans views that it's time we went down. Unlike clubs with similar budgets/supports like ICT and St Johnstone we've never at any stage looked like a side which might challenge for a top six place - far less stay there. The doom and gloom at St Mirren is borne of years of grim performances - especially at our new 'home' - where our record must be one of the worst in Europe. I've got to admit I've pretty much given up the ghost and expect nothing more than a dreary defeat by a goal or two tonight. In the unlikely event we actually do pick up six points in our next two games it will still be a massive uphill battle to even make the payoff spot - and I've seen nothing from our side for weeks to suggest they are up for the fight. Of course I reserve the right to come back on here in a months time and backtrack on everything I've said above....but I don't think I will be.
  13. Seem to mind years ago Adam scored a similar one for Ross County against us at Love St. Scored a few crackers for us when we signed him ourselves on loan the following year. Mostly in the first half when he wisnae too knackered to run
  14. I'm too young to remember Fitzy in his first spell and the glory season under Fergie but I can recall worshipping him in the mid 80s when I started going to all the games rather than just a few per season. A top player, a great guy but a truly awful manager. When I think of the stick some of our managers have taken from the fans Tony got off very, very lightly ..but hey...its Tony ! For some of us he is simply our all time hero. My mate has a Fitzy tattoo...his fully moustachioed coupon from the 1970's. Looks like a mugshot. When I saw it part of me thought 'WTF' and the other part of me thought 'get one'. I haven't ..yet.
  15. I've not been that excited watching darts since seeing jocky when I was a kid. Unreal. Those first darts in the 9th set were like nothing Id ever seen. T20 t20 and the third knocking the first two out. He deserved a medal for winning that set alone. His mind must have been all over the place.
  16. He's only 18 and has just played a handful of games so far. Difficult to tell what's to come from him....has looked 'tidy' enough when I've seen him without being spectacular. We've been dreadful though recently - really dreadful - and Messi himself would have struggled to look good in a Saints shirt. With a bit of luck the goal will really boost his confidence...and some more results like Saturdays might do the same for the rest of the side. I heard he does stuff like that all the time in training....so here's hoping we see it again regularly.
  17. I'd imagine the security is more to do with the Tuesday game than the Ireland game?? Although the Wembley encounter was peaceful ..if you remember the pubs were all like fortresses in the build up.
  18. After sitting through one of the worst performances in recent history in Paisley today I have to agree. Saints battling the drop this year..nae shock in that right enough.
  19. Agree with Marky. With a bit of confidence there was a chance we might upset Aberdeen but there's not a lot of confidence down Paisley way at the moment. Don't look able to keep clean sheets and don't look able to score too many either. Not a good combination. Comfortable home win by two clear goals ..more if the Dons get one early. C'mon saints prove me wrong.
