  1. I don't disagree with what you're saying but Strachan is absolutely correct IMO. Success comes from consistency of application and tweaking your system as the dynamics of the market/environment change over time.
  2. Me neither. Everything with sleeves seems to have those elasticated cuffs which just stretch out of shape. In saying that, they must be doing something right - 20 years ago their shares were eight pence (now almost £80).
  3. The only thing Phoney Blair genuinely regrets about the Iraq war is that he didn't make more money out of it.
  4. I'm really not fussed about the November dates. Think Strachan needs to take some time out and have some reflection on what worked and what didn't in the last campaign. Unless he does that it'll just be same old next campaign. Hopefully he's foregoing the November dates in favour of wee tour/training camp at the end of the season. It would be the ideal opportunity to try out some new players and ideas. Can't really see how we're going to progress any further unless he can tweak his tactics and team to better suit different circumstances.
  5. Surprised none of you auld hoolies nominated "You're gonna get your f****** head kicked in'. Remember the Hearts fans in the early/mid 80s had a song that just went 'Pogo, pogo, pogo, pogo, pogo!' while they jumped up and down. Looked and sounded great.
  6. It was a real six pointer (no football team anywhere has ever won six points from a single match) It's a must-win game (anyone player or manager who doesn't think this about every game should fuc k off and get a job in Tesco) Running the channels (where exactly are the channels in a flat, wide-open field?) It's the three points that count at the end of the day (not if you're ten points off the pace with two games to play) He's the Argentinian Rooney/ He's the German Lampard/ He's the new Beckham (just FU C K OFF!!) The fans are the 12th man (plurals can't be singular unless you're talking about sheep)
  7. I say pretty much the entire current Tartan Army songbook contains most of my most-disliked football songs/chants, many of which have already been mentioned in this thread. I have particular loathing for The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Do-Re-Me and the Fletcher song. 'No Scotland, No Party' looks like it'll make it onto the list soon as well. Think Scotland supporters have forgotten a football match brings two tribes of supporters together. Sun Tzu once told me no tribe would ever intimidate its opponent with a party song.
  8. We're planning on Sicily ferry to Malta. Not really looked into it yet but what swung it for us was meeting a Scotland supporter in a bar in Vilamoura who said all SSC members who do this route were guaranteed a ticket to all the campaign matches, including a free one for Wembley.
  9. Nice wee summary of EVEL on Bella - http://bellacaledonia.org.uk/2015/10/23/tick-tock/
  10. It's the oldest trick in the book of psychology. Politicians use it because they know people are sceptical of what they say, so they use an example of 'I met a woman/man the other day...' as a way of typifying a situation they want the wider to associate with and buy into by trying to make it sound like a) the politician didn't just make the scenario up, or they think the public are stupid and will take their lead from a (false) premise amplified through what's known as 'an argument from authority'. Either way, whether Willie Rennie did meet this person or not, he is still and always will be one of the most fundamentally irrelevant people in Scottish politics - and the world.
  11. Apparently the application form for this show asks potential candidates a heap of stuff about business plans, business acumen and their track record in business. But it doesn't apparently ask if they have ever applied common sense to anything, or even been introduced to the concept of it.
  12. Correct. Craig - you are entitled to your opinion but you're making the mistake of trying to apply logic to hindsight. Not only is that impossible but you then fail to see a football match for what it really is - a series of dynamic and random events. We cannot know what is going to happen next, therefore you cannot say for certain that A would have led to B and then to C. Most people interpret a football match through artificial things like tactics, poor defending or lack of talent etc. But it's really just randomness at work. All the artificial parameters we label the game with can do is increase the probability of an outcome - but they can't actually determine it. To keep that concept as simple as possible ask yourself if the finest coaches in the world have a plan to deal with deflections.
  13. It's different, certainly. If you go back to the days of Scott Kelly's/Ezzy's board there were only about 500 members and many of them knew each other as they were the core of the away support. It was terrific for travel info and tips etc and there was certainly less hostility and petty disagreements. An increase in the member numbers on this incarnation is bound to increase the diversity of opinion and number of arguments. It still serves a purpose but like most people as they get older, they generally see things from a previous perspective. Is that her 'you want a square go?' face or her coming face.
  14. Sure Corbyn said he'd be in Scotland next week. I'm confident he'll take the opportunity to set the record straight
  15. For those in the Algarida Apts - guy who booked us has just noticed we arrive well after the reception closes at night. Anyone else in this situation? If so, what arrangements have you been told? Mate says he can't get any response on the phone from Algarida.
  16. You've got to love the way posh public school boys describe their everyday fetishes as 'initiation ceremonies'.
  17. He lived just off Gogar Station Road. House has since been demolished and rebuilt (I believe). I knew Woody well when I was younger cos my mum and his mum were work pals. Still see his mum occasionally. He once told me that Les didn't trust Eric not because he was better looking, shag ged more burds or because of any musical differences. It was because...... he came from Grangemouth.
  18. Eatin's cheatin' - the biggest Tartan Army myth ever.
  19. It was a fairly flat atmosphere but I wouldn't say it was anything to do with too many drunk people. Only saw one guy asleep at the game (the whole game!) and most people I encountered seemed to have had a drink but were still with it. We did seem to have more space in the stadium this time round and there were plenty gaps within the Scotland support, but there was also a fair few Georgians in our section. About a dozen were sitting behind us and they said they asked the cops if they could switch ends and they were allowed to do so. Most just seemed to want to take selfies with the Scotland fans. Game apart, it was a great trip for us.
  20. The 'No' majority in the independence referendum last year is being explained by an unusual alliance of Scotland's youngest voters, its average earners, Protestants and women. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-34283948
  21. That's the name. I remember it had a series of still photos from the advert behind the bar. I'm not sure what Crosslands is but I was always under the impression that most of the pub scenes in Trainspotting were shot in the place that stood on it's own at Partick Cross, just over from the bottom of Byres Rd. Maybe that was the name of the place? And I'm 99.9% certain that the toilet scene was shot in The Gunner, in Muirhouse, as it's not only the shittiest pub in Edinburgh but was also Irvine Welsh's local.
  22. It is the one next to Frasers. I can't remember the name of it either but it's now the Angel's Share.
