Doric
I believe 2nd place is wide open in our group no matter what happens at Wembley. The problem I think will be is with everyone taking points off each other could mean 2nd place may not be good enough to make the play offs. Good chance the second place team in this group could be the lowest of the nine.
Radian
Definitely, that's what pisses me off everyone in the media "we are only a point" or whatever from the playoff spot. No we are not, 2nd place and playoff are two different things!!
macy37
I'd go as far as saying it is already a certainty that our group will contain the worst 2nd placed team.

And it wont be us. We couldnt beat the second worst team at home, if we get second, I will wear and England kit and vote Tory.

That's going pretty far indeed, lot of football to be played yet. I will however take the opportunity to reiterate what a shite system it is. Eliminating a team on an inter-group comparison basis is a really poor way to decide qualification places. dezmondo
There's no way you can say with certainty that our group could be the group that contains the worst runner up. If you look at previous world cup qualification stats 17 points is always enough to make the play offs. That's 13 more points - home wins against Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia with an away win in Lithuania and a point from any of the other 3 matches would achieve that and is hardly impossible, but on our current form it's hard to be confident. bonny78
it's not over on paper but we all know it is over. it's about as over as seeing us win in England. How likely is that to happen?
