wanderer
Reports Strachan has been checking the eligibility of Aston Villa 2nd choice keeper Jed Steer. Didn't think it was much of a problem position to us at the moment, but probably the last squad maybe made him think we could use a few more options. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/07/20/por-scotland-target-villa-keeper-steer/ Edited July 21, 2015 by wanderer

EIFA10
One for the future possibly. No harm in getting him involved in the squad now, if he is a good fit and wants to come. Our 3 "regular" keepers are all in their 30's. I know that keepers generally have a longer shelf life than outfield players, but we should have a good age mix involved now, to prepare for the day that some or all of them get to the end of their careers. Samson's (31) involvement in the last squad showed that we lack depth, past the first 3 obvious picks. The lad Danny Ward, on loan at Aberdeen and like Jed Steer also 22, has so far shown that if you good enough you are old enough. If Steer gets his chance at Villa this season, it may turn out to be an astute move by Strachan.

True, at the moment it is not a major problem, as we have 3 top keepers who are arguably at their peaks just now, and all things going smoothly, will get at least another 2, maybe 3, campaigns out of them. Just a case of we have to be VERY unlucky if more than 1 of them is out.... suspect last month was a case of Samson was the only player available at short notice. Looking to the future though, not all that much to give us hope...... Jordan Archer is 2nd choice at Millwall (played 2nd half of a friendly v AFC Wimbledon at the weekend and mate said he looked not all that bad).... Jonathan Henley was released by Reading and is currently on trial at Ross County.... Hearts have Jack Hamilton, who could become their number 1 keeper in a couple of years time.....Robby McCrorie was on the bench for Rangers at the weekend, but he is still a long way to go.... Got Ryan Crump at Blackburn Rovers and Ryan Fulton at Liverpool. So we do have some promising goalkeepers coming through, just a case of who and how many of them will actually make it to the next level. Agreed, we could do with blooding some keepers around the fringes, for the future, as it looks a wee bit sparse in the future Scotland keeper department just now. Robroysboy
McGregor seems to have gone off the boil for a while now, Craig Gordon and Marshall are still top keepers. Not a fan of capping english players, especially if they have represented their country at youth level. But I suppose we have to trust strachans judgement.
