biffer
I dont think it helped when the media had the ex Scotland rugby Internationals plastered in the papers and tv campaigning for a no vote outside Murrayfield so you'd have thought there may well have been some collusion with SRU on that. That was disappointing to say the least given that they ignored the YES voting Internationals. I just canny really get into it at the moment and I do want tae spew when I hear FOS being sung at Murrayfield but maybe its partly also because we are so gash at the moment, Particularly as when you see the photos for the article they were all taken outside of Murrayfield, because the SRU told them to sling their hook when they turned up with a photographer. Bristolhibby
It is a class thing. No doubt, and until we get over that we need to get used to getting horsed at rugby. We drastically need to expand the playing population. I went to a state secondary school in Bath, now I know Bath is a hotbed for rugby, but of all the secondary schools that boys went to 4 out of 5 had rugby teams. There is also a strong club set up with a really mixed demograph. My team at u18s was made up of 8 from the rough school, about 3 from mine, another 5 or so from the local mixed comprehensive and another 5 or so from private schools. This demograph was replicated across the many clubs in and around the city. My secondary school has set up in partnership with Bath rugby, giving a school/rugby path to talented kids to continue education while transitioning to the Bath Academy when they leave school at 18. There is a similar with Bath University, where kids can get a higher education while committing to developing through the Bath Academy. http://m.bathrugby.com/news/academy-news/bath-rugby-academy-forms-new-partnership-with-beechen-cliff-school/ J
giblet
Maybe its just because I was born, brought up and now live in Edinburgh. Definite division between rugby and football types.
Toepoke
What's schools rugby like now? When I were a lad all the ex-Grammar schools were hotbeds of the sport. Killie Academy had umpteen rugby teams, if you played fitba you were a pariah....
redstevie007
Compared to this from Scottish Football... The Better Together line-up are managed by Celtic hero McNeill and revered ex- Rangers boss Smith. Former Scotland, Aberdeen, Hibs and Manchester United keeper Jim Leighton is in goal, with David Moyes, Liverpool hero Alan Hansen and Dons legends Alex McLeish and Willie Miller making up the back four. The midfield powerhouse is Manchester United 1968 European Cup winner Paddy Crerand, along with Ibrox icon Barry Ferguson, Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld and ex-Celt turned Sky Sports pundit Davie Provan. And the lethal strikeforce sees former European footballer of the year Denis Law and goal machine Ally McCoist teaming up. I do find it interesting that people have latched on to the rugby thing which seems to be a class issue more than anything else - sadly it shows where we (the Nationalist support) have to be careful we don't get sucked into narrow minded and blinkered prejudice and begin to alienate people who are receptive to independence. TT PS And anyway, everyone knows, it was Aberdonians that sold us out Willie Miller, Alex McLeish, Denis Law

ErsatzThistle
Saw Davie Provan in his column yesterday referring to the Scottish Parliament as the Holyrood Toon Cooncil... Provan is an utter cünt. Loves nothing better than to see Scotland lose. UKIP voter without a doubt.

SMcoolJ
Sure, and im well used to my heroes in the Lisbon lions being wheeled out to support the onion and Labour (Billy McNeill has consistent form in this). But you're right about not buying into it. It's enough to make you cry.....
Guest allyc
But if we were decent we would all be rugby fans.
TartanTeddy
Well if anyone wanted to see a fantastic Scottish performance on the rugby field then they should have watched the Leinster v Glasgow game last night, which was live on BBC 2. An absolutely pulsating 34-34 with Glasgow netting a couple of bonus points to keep them clear at the top of the Pro 12. Some cracking performances and real guts to come back after falling behind late on TT

Combined with the last day of the 6-nations, the best sport I've seen in a long while.
