Toepoke
Aye, it says on the Wiki link. Because he played for Scotland U17s he had to play a competitive game for N.Ireland before age 21 but failed to achieve it...

usainboltyarocket
I'm sure if Paul Paton had been kafflick we'd never have seen this fred. What has his religion got to do with anything? You can choose your nationality according to Fifa. So we have English players playing for us and some scots represent NI or ROI.

ShedTA
Handy this thread was here... http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/news/local/court/paul-paton-to-stand-trial-over-alleged-celtic-goalkeeper-assault-1.856390?update= I always find it bizarre in these situations. he was there, there were several eye witnesses, there is camera footage, its clear he did the assaulting and yet he pleads not guilty. I assume its not guilty to the specifics of the charge rather than not guilty to actually assaulting him.

Kenneth Farrington
I actually forgot all about this - assumed it just fizzled out. Jees, a good job this wasn't announced before the start of the run of games. Can't say I'm a fan of Paton (nowt to do with whatever happened with Zaluska). His Mr Hardman act seems to be a recent thing, but at least we're spared it at international level!
AwayInAManger
Re Paul Paton, I think it must be clear that he would prefer to play for Scotland - if given the choice. But here's the thing, he wasn't, because Scotland didn't want him. But as it happens, he has only ever played a Friendly for NI, so he could always revert to Scotland - if you chose to pick him. Now here's the funny thing, if all our players are fit and available, he wouldn't get into our team either. P.S. Wrt to 'Usainboltybollox' (post #3), it always amuses me when a Scot claims that NI is "a team, not a country". You might want to get a mirror for your wee hoose... Scotland is a Country, we are both in the Political Union called The United Kingdom of GB and NI... and our nationality is British. but i get your general point.....
