A world without diversity, without tolerance, without the freedom to express doubt regarding Absolute Truth as interpreted by the ideologues who hold authority. Such episodes seem to erupt throughout history, sometimes based on religious faith, sometimes not; sometimes involving great bloodshed, sometimes not - the iconoclasm of the English republic; the Terror in parts of France from 1793 to '94; Mao's Cultural Revolution; Year Zero in Kampuchea - they tend to be short-lived, in their most violent manifestations at least. They defy easy explanation, but to generalize I guess they require a perceived wrong against which they are a reaction and a charismatic, monomaniacal leader.
