4 years between the series, very unusual back then. I mind seeing Cleese interviewed saying he thought series 2 was better. I think only one series was initially intended but after it was screened people who worked in hotels would approach him telling him stories of rats in kitchens and dead bodies in bedrooms etc. The material was too good for him not to use.

Mind watching him at the very end of his career, didn't realise he'd been playing since the 1940s! My old man told me a story where he'd taken a bouncer full on the chest and played on, telling the bowler "If that's your best you need to eat more beef".
