  1. Goosebumps.... Can't wait till Veltins Arena on the 12th of July.
  2. Also need other forms of it, such as a "bibberism"
  3. "I say, who's that on the grassy knoll up there..."
  4. Hanley's main development area is judging the flight of the ball. It's his Achilles heel. Too many times he mistimes his jump. WGS needs to get big Alex McLeish in as CB coach - his timing was impeccable, generally cause Wullie would shout at him if he got it wrong Mind they used to be last in from warm up cause they were practicing doing clearing headers between them - Wullie throwing the ball up for Eck...
  5. henry george, on 20 Nov 2014 - 02:31 AM, said: "England played a high pressing game and we always suffer when that happens as it tends to highlight our lack of technical ability." Spot on. This has been a classic England tactic against us for years. And generally works too...
  6. There is a misconception that we don't get crosses in. Maybe in the past aye, but not now - especially with Robertson and Anya hitting in out-swingers from the left and Maloney and Mulgrew hitting in in and out-swingers from the other side, especially free kicks. I think that Rhodes would have had at least two against Ireland. No way he would have missed all of the three great chances we had http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMEWpyv-MkE - Mulgrew's header from Maloney's cross, Fletcher's complete air kick in front of goal off Maloney's nice cross in the first half and Martin's miss from Naismith's cross in second half, when he went near post when the far post was wide open. JR eats these type of chances for breakfast and as neither Fletcher nor Martin were involved in the build up for their own chances, so therefore a requirement for the striker to be involved in link up play was not necessarily true, which is most folk's seemingly main complaint about Rhodes and would be true if we weren't playing in as many good crosses as we currently are.. Add in the fair few other cut backs and rebounds off the keepers in both the Georgia and Ireland games that fell into open space with players standing watching, stock still on their heels and showing zero anticipation; add some headers that sailed over or wide from others (and neither Fletcher nor Martin were able to get positioned to get on the end of them). After watching Rhodes against Australia (ok a data set of only one, but the YouTube compilation of his goals shows his natural finishing ability and knack of being in the right place and the right time and his U21 goal scoring record), I am not buying that he could not play and score goals in our current formation.. And as we cannot seem to keep a clean sheet for more than 30% of games, we need to be scoring goals, and more than we currently do. We also need someone that the opposition fear and make them use up defending resources on that dealing with that fear to leave room for others (Naisy, Anya and Maloney). To be fair, Fletcher is doing this part well, but he should be scoring those opportunities that he's missing currently as well. As others have said, JR and Fletcher vs Gib could see something akin to Boyd, Faddy and Miller's demolition of the Faroes a few years ago. (Actually I just watched that on YouTube and that keeper must have been on a bung!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7F5nFqrtzI. ) WGS needs to get JR back in the squad, if not the team.
  7. Do as Neil says (Young not R) - http://classicrock.teamrock.com/news/2014-11-18/neil-young-calls-for-starbucks-boycott
  8. Three great sounds - Maloney's boot making contact (doof), the ball hitting the onion bag, and the crowd roar. Magic!

    Rip

RIP; thoughts with family, friends and all who witnessed this tragedy..
  10. I see the Hootsman sourcing story ideas from the tamb again http://www.scotsman.com/news/transport/two-scottish-roads-among-most-dangerous-in-britain-1-3592916
  11. Culture! That reminds me of a cracking Yes Prime Minister episode when Jim questions why tax payers money is used to pay for culture for the sole benefit of the "Establishment" (who could afford it themselves) and not on football, as his local football team is heading for the wall .... Jings,... clever programme that...

  13. The interesting part here is that after initial diagnosis and 6 months to live sort of thing, Wilco refused the usual "chemotherapy life extension in pain" treatment and continued gigging. I think I read it was a second opinion on the tumour by this surgeon who thought he could remove it safely and avoid any chemo treatment which Wilco went for. Good on him

    Hutton

I just saw the goals. The second one credit has to be given to the pass and run from Polish players. If we had done that no-one would be saying "their full back fecked up there!". The first one was certainly a bad mistake but a good finish by the Pole compounded it. Think back to Saturday; late in the game, R. Martin dollied the ball out from our 6 yard box to a Georgian on the 18 yard line who promptly screwed it wide. Hutton's the fall guy and Martin's a "good looking" "cadillac" (some quotes from other threads) of a centre half. Ooft - fine margins indeed.
  15. Ireland tend to score late as well. Trying to sit on a 1-0 may not be the best tactic....

    Hutton

I didn't see the game so am unable to critique nor defend Hutton's performance last night. However, it begs the question that if he's such a known liability defensively then why aren't the tactics set to cope with it, ie the CBs, or right hand of the sitting 2 midfields covering for him? Having Maloney in front of him doesn't do him any favours either. I don't think he's exactly brilliant (none of our players are - they all have limitations) but WGS obviously thinks he the best we have. I only saw the last 60 mins on Saturday but he was with Brown and Robertson the stand out player. His run to set up the wasteful Naismith was like his set up for Faddy's great goal a few years ago (cannae mind against whom). It is a stronger argument to blame Naismith for his poor touch, control and shooting accuracy (technique) for not scoring a bunch of winning goals but who'd call for his removal? Hutton's delivery and accuracy will surely improve this year with more game time at Villa. He must only have played about 50 competitive games in the last 4 years. Naisy doesnt have any such excuse for his failings. I know this is whataboutery but the point is valid (or just as invalid in the big scheme of things). Hutton's ability to run out of our half with the ball deep into the oppositions half beyond their first line of defenders puts us on the front foot quickly and makes room for others by drawing defenders onto him (notably Naismith and Maloney on Saturday) and we have no-one else that can do this. All the top teams have this capability, we need it also for our formation as we can't hold possession in our own half for more than 3 passes against a pressing team. 1 bad game means we drop him? Then why we still carrying Whittaker, Maloney, Hanley etc etc? Hanley's inability to time a jump for a header has cost us far more goals in his approx 15 caps than Hutton in nearly 50. But he's "young" so it's alright?? If our CBs were as talented, athletic footballers as our FBs we'd be pretty formidable team right now. And anyway, a draw away to Poland is a good result and all the players should be credited for it.
  17. Vs Argentina 1979 and sunburnt tae buggery. That's it.
  18. What form of tax would you agree with? Income, council, or in a reciprocal tax agreement in their country of abode? On a separate note, I have come across 2 individuals that live in KL and actually travelled back just to vote no, using their Scotland property address which they do not have rented out. Legal or not?
  19. Talking of banks, can anyone recommend an internationally renown offshore bank which has on-line facility for transfers, a global view of multiple accounts and as such? Except HSBC that is...
  20. You are quick!. I tried to edit it as in hindsight I could have worded it better; a rare and missed opportunity I feel.
