  1. Not sure I can give definitive answers as much will be down to negotiation post-indy. 1) Banks generally don't actually print currency. A company called De La Rue is one of the world's biggest printers of currencies, cheques, bank drafts etc. Banks are licensed to operate banking services in a geographical area, not to print cash. 2) Don't forget that increased rates are good for some people (eg:savers). I'd imagine the BoE's monetary policy committee would 'weight' Scottish input to ensure that an interest rate balance is struck that serves both economies appropriately. Individuals and companies can hedge against interest rate movements. 3) Not sure what you're asking here but why not consider a fixed rate mortgate. Interest rates generally controll local economies. Exchange rates are far more complex in what affects them. 4) I've no idea on this. 5) A Scottish Treasury. 6) Again, negotiation but I can't answer that. 7) There would have to be some kind of common-sense approach. There will likely be a cut-off date between the application of one regime and the next one in the same way a govt can pass a budget measure that isn;t implemented until the following parliament session. 8) No idea. Sure there will be something on some of the big tax advisor website (PwC, Deloitte etc) 9) Hopefully not. Hopefully it will be a simplified flat-rate scheme (shown to encourage payment). Scotland's already said it would look to a simpler system of tax. You only need to look at Butterworths to see how unweildy the UK tax system is. 10) Because they will have cost and procedural changes to bear. It's not a case really of them saying indy is bad, more a case of how do we explain added costs to shareholders etc. It's a grunble rather than a complaint. Not sure if you're self-employed or not but most of the self-employed people I know live with risk and uncertainty every day. Probably explains why I can find few self-employed people who aren't voting Yes.
  2. I not sure the Sun coming out for No would be a good move commercially. It has been fairly balanced in its coverage up to now, hence why many people may have stuck with it in the hope it would go with Yes. To come out now and support No would mean that it would have to explain to its readers why it has done this so late in the campaign. Record readers wouldn;t suddenly flock to the Sun, so I can't see where the commercial gain would be. Better to stay out of it, I'd say.
  3. Jackie pretending she knows what she's talking about. More power to her researcher, methinks.
  4. Think Gib should more it to Torshavn if Faro's off the cards.
  5. For those that don't really understand what BF is - it's not a bookie as such. BF is basically a platform that allows one person to bet directly against another (IE: person to person). BF just takes a commission (usually 5%) from whoever wins the bet. I've got two BF accounts and only use the exchange facility, not the sportsbook. All my indy bets are still live and can't be settled until the result is known because the exchange bets are not made with BF, they are person to person. I'd guess the main reason BF are paying out on the sportsbook is more to allow those who have money tied up in bets to free it up and make it available for further betting, possibly on the exchange. BF has a high percentage of professional gamblers using it and this is how they operate. On the subject of odds - BF's are generally an accurate reflection of the market, as BF is used by all the major bookmakers to hedge the bets coming through their shops and online platforms. In saying that, in a two horse race, the true odds are evens. Anything higher for one side is a value bet. Plenty bookies will have put money on Yes as a hedge.
  6. If what you said before the bolded bit is true then there is no debt 'history' to see. You're overall point is valid but it's not how credit generally works, which is why Scotland will probably pay a little extra %age on borrowings at the outset. Easiest way is to honour what's apparently due and have a stronger hand when it comes to negotiating a better settlement in other areas of division of assets.
  7. Was in town around lunch time and thankfully the main streets in the city centre were kept free from the march, which having watched it for about 15 minutes was an Orange Walk by any other name. 'No Popery' banner - what has that got to do with keeping the Union intact? What has a 'Protestant Defenders of the Faith' banner got to do with preserving the Union? What has a 'For God and Ulster' banner got to do with fighting Scottish independence? All this playing out to their cheery music and a backing track of police and ambulance sirens (though I never saw any incidents). I won't get too personal by describing some of the cheering onlookers but just say one mob of eight (males and females) couldn't have mustered up a full set of teeth between them. Sadly, the Yes sign on the castle rock wouldn't have been seen by the marchers, as it was on the north west side while the march went down the east side towards Waverley. One guy was playing some drums at the bottom of the mound and admitted he'd made a fair bit of cash from people thanking him for drowing out the noise of 'whining flutes'. Also happy for the homeless guy in Hanover St who was giving away small Yes stickers with each donation. He was on the last of his 20 sheets when I passed and admitted to his best ever day's takings (over £100) so far.
  8. Agree. It looks better in real life. I took a couple of photos of it this morning but I've no idea how to put them on here.
  9. Send him this link http://wingsoverscotland.com/to-my-friends-in-labour/ It's probably the best thing I've read in over two years of this campaign. It if doesn't make Labour diehards feel ashamed then nothing will.
  10. All very nice but we aren't going anywhere - just making our own way in the world. They can all still visit.
  11. Someone in Dortmund told me the Radical Road was planning on opening all night Thurs. Anyone confirm?
  12. That's no excuse. Buy & sell orders don't follow exchange opening hours, they are placed 24hrs a day. The reason leaking market sensitive info is so frowned upon is because news that can alter a share price has to be made available to all market participants at the same time so that everyone (in theory at least) has the same opportunity to act on that news if they wish. News released outwith exchange opening times doesn't afford the public fair dealing, as market makers will already have moved pricing to reflect the news before the public hears it. What will be interesting is to see who, if anyone, acted on the news and possibly made a financial gain from it. Likewise, if any investigation finds it's been deliberate market manipulation.
  13. That looks like the ideal wrapping paper for a turd present to their office.
  14. Aside from many of them having gone to private schools, I'd separate the rugby guys' playing days from now. I wouldn't question their commitment to Scotland's rugby team but I'd suggest their 'commitment' to the UK stems from their business interests, which is also tied in tight with their old school networks. Andy Nichol works with RBS David Sole is involved in financial services. Scott Hastings does business speaking and after dinner speeches. Gavin Hastings (the most obnoxious tw@t I've ever encountered) also worked with RBS. Guys like Bill Gammell (not in the photo) started Cairn Energy and is personal friends with Blair & Bush. Most of these guys are either employed or enjoy the patronage of big business, so no real surprise they support No.
  15. She clearly doesn't understand what forward contracts and hedging is all about.
  16. Go on Ruth - can you also tell us how much was wiped off Scottish companies in one hour when Brown and Darling got their loyalties wrong?
  17. Note to Ruth: there aren't 63 million people contributing to the UK's income. Note to George: oil has been as low as $10 a barrel in your lifetime (not $12) and as high as $150 (not $126). Talking bollokks.
  18. Can I add those who temporarily divorce their toothbrush on tour to the list?
  19. We got caught up in this at Luton as well. Cops talking of an "unprecedented" incident, M1 closed, planes diverted, the 'plentiful' supply of snacks and refreshments running out with hundreds still queuing etc - all for a set of fukkin hair straighteners. On top of that, easyJet were a disgrace when it came to keeping passengers informed. And their post-cancellation 'help' was non-existant. Never claimed compo or refunds from an airline before but I was so pi55ed off with easyJet yesterday I'm going to do it this time.
  20. Liked the way Salmond stayed calm and collected, unlike Darling on last night's Scotland Tonight (almost melted). Jackie Bird took the opportunity to try and look and sound like some hard-nosed investigative journalist - and failed miserably. Stick to easy links, cosy anchoring and Hogmanay shindigs, Jackie.
  21. Most tabloids work on the basis that readership is closer to 3x circulation. Either way it's still a sizeable number of people who read it. I don't do Twitter so don't know what Murdoch may be hinting at but a pal of 30 years is an exec at the Scottish Sun. I asked him just before leaving for the game in Germany when it was coming out in favour of Yes and he just laughed an tapped his nose. If it does, I'd expect Sunday as it is the last Sunday before the ref and so could wipe the floor with extra sales. Could be waiting until then to build a run of follow-up exclusives until polling day to build both sales and yes momentum. Who knows?
  22. Hope you're wrong. I'd have had Edinburgh down as a No at the outset but I'm astonished at some of the support for Yes I've seen across the city. Areas such as Craigleith, Craigentinny, Orchard and even some parts of Blackhall are peppered with Yes posters. I'm also astonished at some of the archetypal Morningside ladies that are Yes voters.
  23. The true odds on Yes are evens - so anything above that is a great value bet.
