neilser
Not sure, I think he was MP for Edinburgh Central at the time. That wouldn't necessarily have held him back: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/mps-expenses/cabinet-expenses/5601879/Alistair-Darlings-expenses.html
Auld_Reekie
Lindsay Roy, he of the infamous missing voters register in Kirkcaldy, has also announced he's stepping down next year. Quite a few Scottish MPs now: Ming Campbell Lindsay Roy Alistair Darling Im sure there were one or two others. Wonder if we are seeing several decide it's not worth a kicking from the electorate. Armchair Bob
Hadn't the fists of clunk also said he'd stand down?
tomtscotland
I've heard a rumour than Ian Davidson will stand down. Gordon Matheson may stand for vacant seat.
ZoltanBuchan
: never before has *any* politician made my blood boil so much.... While I fully agree with your one word description of the man, to be honest he's nowhere neat the top of my list of most loathsome Scottish Labour figures. He'd probably only just about scrape into the top ten, in fact.

Armchair Bob
I don't know why folk are so down on Darling. For a Tory, he's alright.
antidote
He's no traitor. Born in London, an englishman through and through and doing exactly what his paymasters ask of him. I agree though - he is a bunny rabbit. He claims to be Scottish that's enough for me. He's a loathsome creature.
tomtscotland
STV news headlined with the news with along piece about Darling standing down. I'm sure when he dies the eulogy will be shorter......here's hoping anyway. Edited November 3, 2014 by tomtscotland
petrocelli
Nothing ironic at all that he chose to give his retirement announcement interview to the Financial Times, as all good Marxists of the past have done.
