  1. There were very different attitudes to child abuse in those days. Children were often not believed if they came forward and even when there was evidence it would often be "swept under the carpet". In some cases that would have been to protect either a powerful or important individual or in a lot of cases from a mistaken belief that it would be protecting the victim. Thankfully we are in a much better position these days in respect of our understanding but it's always dangerous to apply contemporary views and values to the actions of people in even the recent past. That isn't to say that to cover up child abuse was the right thing to do then but it helps to understand why it happened.

Take loads of cash, been a couple of times but not for a few years. It was expensive enough back then, God knows what it'll be like the way the pound is now. TBH, it's nice enough but pretty unremarkable. The only thing that I really remember is there is a fantastic old traditional restaurant in the main SNCF train station.
  3. That sounds like the sort of garbage you get with predictive text or autocorrect, especially on iOS. While it's a useful tool for correcting typos it don't think it's great for general literacy. I think it'll have an effect similar to calculators had with numeracy.
  4. I've never understood why motor insurance is tied to the vehicle and isn't a form of personal liability insurance. I can understand that certain cars due to their performance and value carry a premium but I would have thought the risk lies more with the driver rather than the vehicle.
  5. I get your point entirely about Mackay's character being suspect but on your first point about working with youth teams etc., I think you're partially wrong. While the role of performance director is primarily focused at elite player development I'd be amazed if the performance director is doing much, if indeed any, hands on coaching. Brian McClair was hired to do two things, firstly, to come up with a comprehensive plan to restructure youth development and secondly to implement that plan. Implementing that plan would fall into two main areas, firstly building and managing a team of coaches throughout Scotland To work in regional performance centres with young players and secondly, working with and influencing stakeholders - in this case the senior clubs - to buy into the SFA's plan and to support it in their own youth development. As I understand it resigned/was sacked because while, I imagine in his previous role as head of youth development at Man Utd., he had loads of experience in doing the former, he felt/it was felt that he didn't have the skill set for the latter. I'm not saying Malky Mackay is necessarily the right man for the job but it's pretty clear to me it that on top of the footballing expertise it needs to someone who either already has a certain level of gravitas or has very good personal influencing skills.
  6. The team that competes in the Victory Sheild is run by the SFA and is the Scotland U16 team. In the past it was run by the SSFA - Scottish Schoolboys FA - which was a separate but affiliated organisation. Thats the key difference, there were two separate association both running u16 teams often containing different players witch competing priorities. The SFA's main priority was elite player development whereas the SSFA's was in promoting schools football. About 10 years ago, the SFA took over responsibility for all representative youth football.
  7. Tomorrow nights"s panel from Maidenhead. Louise Mensch, Nigel Farage, Dr. Sarah Wolleaston, Richard Burgon. Will Self. aaid, thankfully *not* in the audience.
  8. Out of interest, are Celtic the club with the most UEFA charges for fan behaviour in recent years?.
  9. More likely they just guessed his password was 1luvGord0n
  10. Those ones from big global companies are more likely scammers harvesting email addresses and then guessing that people will have accounts with eBay, Paypal or whoever as they are popular companies rather than it being as a result of a data breach per se. They send out 1000 emails, 100 of them may be to people that have a PayPal account and if 1 out of that 100 follows up on it then they are quids in. I get loads of spam email purporting to be from various accounts I've never had any dealings with in my life.
  11. I'd say that's unlikely. It looks more like a straightforward email hack where an email account has been hacked or spoofed and they've got a hold of the email contacts. That stuff happens all the time. A couple of things make me think that's the case. Firstly, some people are reporting that they are getting it from the "Scotland Supporters Club" and from "Scotland National Team" and people are reporting getting it sent to personal and work email addresses. More importantly, if the SSC membership database been hacked, then that would include your personal details, and so you expect them to include things like your name and address in the email to make it look more authentic.
  12. Five posts on same topic this morning, looks like some hacker is spamming the board. On a serious note, it looks like it's the SSC/SFA email lists that have been hacked rather than the SSC membership database.
  13. That's interesting, do the SSC have both email addresses?
  14. The Scottish legislation on minimum pricing was passed in 2012
  15. The legislation was passed in 2012, its the implementation that has been held up in the courts.
  16. I think it has, at the bottom there is the following clarification. TBH, it's pretty shabby to use a picture that identifies any club in this context, there is obviously going to be a inference drawn.
  17. You're lucky, at least you haven't applied to be in the audience.
  18. I'd imagine it'll be a bit more like the British Summer Time "festival" that's been running under different names in Hyde Park for the last dozen years ago. It's not really a festival as such, more a series of different big outdoor gigs held on consequtive days with different sorts of line ups and very different audiences. For example, this year's headline acts are Green Day, Kings of Leon and Phil Collins. I don't see many people who are going on the Friday to see Phil Collins will be hanging around to see Green Day on the Saturday. If it doesn't start out that way, I can definately see it evolving that way if it becomes a permanent fixture as it makes perfect sense for a city centre event.
  19. Anyway, back to the EU referendum. What a great reception the FM got in Dublin yesterday. Yoons are going mental about it.
  20. Not the same plane, but when we played in Bari we flew on Alitalia from Heathrow to Rome. We were on a late afternoon flight had been some sort of disruption so a lot of planes were delayed into and out of Rome and although we should've had a reasonable stopover at Fiumicino, we ended up landing just after our connecting flight to Bari was supposed to have taken off. I guess there were a dozen or so Scotland fans making the connection and we were met off the plane told to go to the gate but obviously had to go through immigration and security and leg it to the gate eventually getting there about half an hour after we landed. As it was the last flight of the day to Bari, they'd held it for us. Piled onto a bus and out to the airplane and boarded. Our relief at getting the flight was only compounded by the sight of a load of other Scotland fans, including Flat Earth and Lamia looking seriously pissed off as they'd had to sit on the Tarmac for the best part of an hour waiting for us. Made my night.
