  1. Sometimes things are greater than they seem. Sometimes it looks like what you’ve done is not enough. But the initial result can be misleading – it’s the reverberations and the after-shocks that cause the real change. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs7TlivUFGk The sands are shifting, with all sorts of unknowables in the next three years. A general election in 2015; a Scottish election in 2016; very probably an EU referendum in 2017. I think we may have set in motion events which will bring about our desired result sooner than we think. If you’re too impatient to watch the whole clip, the vital scenes are at 2:20 and 5:30. PS Before any pedant says I’m comparing the UK state to the Nazis, I’m not. I’m just using a familiar film clip to show how what can look like apparent failure turns out to be very different.
  2. They could pass primary legislation saying 'The union is indissoluble' but no parliament can bind its successors. There's no such thing as 'forever' under the unwritten British constitution.
  3. This. The Bruce didn't give up: use him as your inspiration. Try, try, try again. If that doesn't work for you, think of Billy Bremner: "Never stop fighting!"
  4. The more the pressure is on them (with many thousands signing a petition) the harder it will be for them to renege on the plastic vow they made last week. This isn’t going cap in hand, this is saying “Right, now you deliver.” If/when they fail to deliver, we make hay.
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHwlrgfBmVA At the Dundee count. Anyone hear of this happening anywhere else?
  6. 38 Degrees petition demanding they honour their promise. We’ve got to keep the pressure up https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/promise-for-Scotland
  7. Agree about the high heid yins. Self-serving bunch. Labour councillor I was speaking to last night on polling duty was one of the good guys. Said the Labour party had to change, even keen to forge some links with the SNP over areas of agreement. Today I feel like sh*te, but we’ll move on from this. Even though we didn’t win yesterday’s vote, the reverberations from the campaign, and the massive turn-out, mean change will come. And it could be all to play for next year after the Westminster election. If Labour don’t win that then they could fracture. Even if they win they can’t do it without a significant number of MPs from Scotland - which is already causing resentment in parts of England. So it’s not the end. The next phase is just starting.
  8. This. I cannae take another seven hours of torment. I'm off for some kip.
  9. Five to ten tonight, the last to vote at the polling station I was on came up and admitted he was Undecided. The other YES guy with me said he’d give him three good reasons to vote Yes. He got two and a half in before the guy said OK, he’d vote Yes. May have been an easy push over the line, and he may never have been a ‘No’, but they all count. Even better news was the Labour councillor who was there who admitted he wouldn’t be surprised if YES won.
  10. At a polling station in Perth this afternoon I got called 'The enemy' by one old boy. Wasn't meant in jest. But tomorrow, we have to move the country forward.
  11. Been on polling duty in Craigie, Perth. Turnout about 40% by 2:30 pm
  12. Hope Over Fear. Written today, I think. Cracking song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP7xG_bHOIs
  13. Can anyone post the clip with Billy Bragg about half way through the Kevin Bridges bit? It's in two segments. Well worth sharing with Undecideds.
  14. If the wheels are coming off anything it’s that hollow ‘vow’ made in the Record by the Three Stooges. MPs in London are horrified by this panicked measure: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/scotland-independence-vote-cameron-miliband-clegg-face-anger-over-taxpayers-cash-9735431.html
  15. Freedom is coming Tommy Sheridan used the ‘F’ word in his interview with Andrew Neil at the weekend. So here’s one of the great songs from the anti-apartheid movement, sung on this occasion by a bunch of English anti-frackers (many other versions are available): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RzJ0C4mZvw
  16. Talking about the window poster question driving into Perth this evening. We were looking out for the signs, and YES are way ahead - although a few more Nos have been put up in the last day or two. The YES ones really cheer you up, but it’s the total absence of posters in most windows that makes me wonder how strong or widespread the support is. Like others on here, I have good moments and bad moments. Seeing that YouTube video from Glasgow on Saturday was a real highlight. PS Anyone found out what medication Flure’s on? Cause I want some.
  17. Sod it. Now I won’t be able to go to bed on Friday. I’ve done the all-nighters in the past, but I’m not just able for it now. Thought I would try and catch a few hours’ kip and then wake up to the result. Now I’ll be on FB and TAMB all night trying to read the runes.
