Betty
We've been having recurring issues with our main riser (8 flat tenement ) for 2 years now. On our side it's failed 3 times in different areas. My question is whether it's a communal issue as it's a communal pipe or does each floor hold responsibility for their own section? I'd have thought it'd be best to do the lot and make it communal responsibility. ... not in sections and pay bit by bit.... Any advice would be great before I go steaming in and make a complete Twat of myself cheers.
dandydunn
Who owns the building? Is it council? Private? Leasing agents? From my experience of living in flats,if there was a problem with anything in the communal area, the council stumped up for their properties and the private ones had to cover it themselves. Betty
We are all private . Usually split everything that's related to the whole building.
Mee
By main riser I guess you mean the big vertical pipe all the waste water goes down. I had an issue with the one in my flat a few weeks ago. When the flats were built the floor was resting on the pipe from the bath into the riser. Weight of people walking on it cracked the riser and water was dripping into downstairs flat. This part of the plumbing is communal and owned by the building, all other parts are for your flat only. In this instance they cut out and replaced the section between my flat and downstairs. Work was arranged by the factor and paid for by the buildings insurance. I think there was an excess that was paid by my landlord and flat downstairs. Betty
It's the main pipe bringing the water in . Turns out it is communal in a shared block.
Bzzzz
Its communal. Main stacks are communal but the branch pipes aren't.
Betty
Thanks Bzzzz. Panicked a wee bit as we were away and our poor neighbour was left with the fallout. All sorted now though. Thanks again guys.
